Tattoo Merit Badge Release

If your scouts have already earned the Exploration merit badge and are looking for something more interesting, it's your lucky day!

The Tattoo Merit Badge was just announced and the merit badge pamphlet is available in scout shops and as electronic download.

If you email in the results of your requirement #8 project, I'll post it with the others I've received like these: Scouts BSA tattoo

With all the changes and updates being done for the "Boy Scouts" to "Scouts BSA" migration, this merit badge has not yet been added to the official list on scouting.org but should be there soon. Two other merit badges in that same state of limbo for a few years now are the Walking merit badge and Hunting merit badge. Please ensure your scouts are aware of these additional badges, especially if they are trying to earn them all.

I have mixed feelings about this merit badge, what message are we really sending to our younger scouts, that's its okay to jump off a bridge when your friends challenge you to do so? Better yet! lets have the older scouts give tattoos to the younger scouts. I'm disappointed that the BSA would Approve this type of encouragement. I encourage my children to be as creative as they can as well as help guide the to who they want to be. I trust that the leaders in our unit leave this one out of our program.

@Dave Keleher - This was an April Fool's joke. If you follow the Tattoo Merit Badge link above, you will see that it says:

(Please notice the publish date for this merit badge. It is not a real badge.)

All official BSA merit badges are listed at the following link. The tattoo merit badge is not listed there, because it is a joke.
