My Dead Dog Rover Song
The Tune: (Four Leaf Clover)
Lyrics:
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover,
That I over-ran with the mower.
One leg is missing the other is gone.
The third one is scattered all over the lawn.
No need explaining the one remaining
It's splattered on the kitchen door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover,
that I over-ran with the mower.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.
One leg is broken, the other is lame,
The third leg is missing, the fourth needs a cane.
No need explaining, the tail remaining
Was caught in the oven door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.
That I over-ran with the mower.
One leg is missing the other is gone.
The third one is scattered all over the lawn.
No need explaining the one remaining
It's splattered on the kitchen door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover,
that I over-ran with the mower.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.
One leg is broken, the other is lame,
The third leg is missing, the fourth needs a cane.
No need explaining, the tail remaining
Was caught in the oven door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.

No need explaining the one leg remaining
It's splattered on the kitchen door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover,
who I overlooked before
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
who I hit with a power mower
My dog's not eating, he no longer barks
He hit the propeller and turned into sparks
No need explaining there's no dog remaining
He's part of the grass, you see
I'm looking over my dead dog rover
who I sent to eternity

...
His heads in the garden
His leg's in the lane
O' my goodness, I slipped on his brain.
No use complaining, no parts remaining.
His gut's on the kitchen door...

We sang a variant atc Scout camp back in
the 1950s.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover who's lying on the kitchen floor. One leg is broken the other is sprained I ran him over with my Coco Puff train....

My grandpa used to say this one:
I once had a dog,
His name was Rover
When he died,
He died all over
All but his tail
And it rolled over.
I once had a dog,
His name was Rover
When he died,
He died all over
All but his tail
And it rolled over.

As a child in the 60's we sang it different
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover that I've over looked before.
1 leg is broken the other is sprained, I ran him over with my Coco-puff train.
I guess there's no denying my dog is dieing he's squished on the kitchen floor.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover that I've over looked before.
