

Greased Watermelon Game
This Game is meant for Scouts BSA.
Location:
This Game should be held in water.
Required:
watermelon
shortening
shortening
Preparation:
coat the watermelon with shortening to make it slippery.
Define the play area in the water with a center line and two endzone goal lines.
Water should be between waist and chest deep.

Notes:
Follow safe swim practices.
Instructions:
Divide into two teams, each lining up on their goal line.
Float the watermelon at the center line.
Object is to acquire watermelon and move it across the opposing goal line.
The watermelon can not be lifted out of the water.
Safety: Lifeguards need to pay very close attention to the scrimmages and keep a sharp eye out.

For all pool owners --- do NOT let this this game be played in your pool,unless you wanting a cleaning nightmare!!!
Shortening, grease or whatever will not come out of the pool without extreme effort.
As such, this is an ill conceived game where no one thinks of the consequences afterward.
You know there's a reason why oil spills are so hard to clean up in the oceans and this isn't much different on a smaller scale.
Jul 17, 2013 - AntillesIt did not say this had to be played in a pool, so I would not call this game ill-conceived. Was there anecdotal evidence to support this "nightmare?"
As grease is not soluble in water, I would imagine most would stay attached to the melon or to the boys. Unless you do this frequently, I don't see negligible amounts of grease harming the pool or the filter. In fact, I'd bet far more grease comes off those boys naturally.
