Ditchem Game
Notes:
game for a large group over a wide area
Instructions:
Identify the play area, which should be a large field or forested area.
Identify a Jail Space for captured scouts.
Divide the scouts into two teams.
Team A has 1 minute for its scouts to hide anywhere in the designated play area while Team B has their eyes shut.
A signal is given, and Team B spreads out, searching for hiding scouts.
Found scouts must be tagged - rougher versions require being tackled - to be captured.
Captured scouts are led to the Jail Space where they must stay - rougher versions allow captured scouts to attempt escape on the way to jail, but never once placed in the jail.
Once in jail, the scout can be rescued by having a teammate run to the jail area and tag the jailed scout.
The Jail can have as many guards as the searching team wants.
The round is over when all hiding scouts are in jail. Then, teams switch roles and try again.

I love this game! I am a SPL and the boys had a great time. Some
alternate ways to play it is have each patrol take turns being the
seekers. The number of boys in jail after 5 minutes is their
score. Repeat for each patrol, and the one with the most points
after everyone has gone is the winner!

We used to play this in The Anchorage Coastal
Wildlife Refuge when I was growing up in the
late 80's, early 90's. The area was probably
about a square mile of swamp and grasslands
buttressing up to a forested bluff, where the
jail would be at the top. We'd get about 12-
15 kids playing at a time, and the games
would sometimes last for like 4hrs. I'm
still convinced it's the best game a group of
kids can ever play.
