British Bulldog Game
This Game is meant for Scouts BSA.
Notes:
This gets VERY physical. You may want to address your larger scouts aside before the game about handling smaller scouts.
Instructions:
One scout is the 'bulldog' and stands in the center of the play area.
Everyone lines up at one end of play area.
When the bulldog yells, 'British Bulldog', all scouts run to the far end of the play area, avoiding the bulldog.
To capture someone, the bulldog must lift the player completely off the ground long enough to yell, '1, 2, 3, British Bulldog!'
That player then becomes a bulldog too.
The last player caught is the bulldog for the next round.

To make it easier for the younger or smaller boys, just have them grab hold and count 1,2,3-- no lifting.

That is what we did Steven, for the younger kids they just grab
hold of the hand, but the older kids have to lift, the younger
kids generally enjoy being lifted by the older kids.

yeah... as a Scout back in '88 the objective wasn't to "lift off the
ground" it was to football-style tackle to the ground and pin them there.
I'd be pretty sure that's why it has a rough reputation and might be
banned by some councils.
That said, everyone enjoyed it, large or small though it did create issues where the more bully-prone would have a bigger time of it.

I was a cub, scout, senior and scoutmaster from 1952 to 1974. This game was "played" at all levels until the late 1960's when it was banned in the UK. Everyone enjoyed it until they got hurt.
Looking at any international rugby match it is easy to see the similarities. With British Bulldogs the object was for you to get to the other end against an increasing number of bulldogs. With rugby the numbers against you don't increase, but you have to take the ball with you.

@Peter - As of 2010, this game is in the Troop Program Features
BSA document. I could find no place stating it is banned by UK
Scouting. With supervision and discipline, physical games are
safe to play.
