As a child camping at Clear Lake California my mother always led us in this tale (1956ish).  Now I am going back for the first time and this came to mind.  It is also something I tried to do with my sons and would like to do with my grandson some day.

I remember this frombeing  in Bluebirds and Campfire. Now I want to do it with my great nephews. I'm going to say "binoculars" instead of "gun". I can't wait!
