Ain't No Bugs on Me

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Oh, there ain't no bugs on me, on me.
There ain't no bugs on me
There may be bugs on some of you mugs
But there ain't no bugs on me.

Oh there ain't no flies on me, on me.
There ain't no flies on me.
There may be flies on some of you guys
But there ain't no flies on me.

Well, the Juney bug comes in the month of June
The lightning bug comes in May
Bed bug comes just any old time
But, they're not going to stay

Well, a bull frog sittin' on a lily pad
Looking up at the sky
The lily pad broke and the frog fell in
He got water all in his eye.

There ain't no frogs on us.
There ain't no frogs on us.
There might be frogs on some of you dogs,
But there ain't no frogs on us.

Mosquito he fly high
Mosquito he fly low
If old mosquito lands on me
He ain't a gonna fly no mo'

A peanut sittin' on a railroad track
His heart was all a flutter
Along come a choo-choo on the track
Toot! Toot! Peanut butter!

A cow walked on the railroad track,
the train was coming fast.
The train got off the railroad track
to let the cow go past!

As I went walking through the woods
Humming a tune so gaily
The wind come whistling through the trees
And froze my ukelele

Oh there ain't no lobsters on me
There, ain't no lobsters on me
There may be lobsters On some of you mobsters
But there ain't no lobsters on me.

Oh it ain't gonna rain no more no more
It ain't gonna rain no more
How in the heck can I wash my neck
When it ain't gonna rain no more?

Well little bugs have littler bugs.
Up on their backs to bite'em
And the littler bugs have still littler bugs
And so ad infinitum.

We had a cat down on our farm
It had a ball of yarn
When those little cats were born
They all had sweaters on

She lay down by the sewer
And by the sewer she died
And at the coroner's inquest
They called it sewer side

We had a goat down on our farm
It ate up old tin cans
When those little goats were born
They came in Ford sedans

Some people say that fleas are black
But I know that ain't so
'Cause Marry had a little lamb
Whose fleece was white as snow

Mary had a little lamb,
so goes the tale of yore.
She loved that little lamb so much,
she passed the plate for more.

I woke up in the morning,
I glanced upon the wall.
The roaches and the bedbugs
were having a game of ball.

The score was six to nothing,
the roaches were ahead.
A bedbug hit a home run
and knocked me out of bed!

The chamber maid came to my bed
Get up you lazy sinner
We need the sheets for table cloths
And it's almost time for dinner

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To try out Jack's new flivver
The car broke down a mile from town
And dumped them in the river.

A doctor fell into a well
and broke his collar bone.
We think that he should tend the sick
and leave the well alone.

A farmer slipped on the old barn roof
when rotten boards gave way,
And as as he fell, he shrugged and said,
'It's time to hit the hay.'

Humpty Dumpty fell right down
and landed on his head,
So, all the horses and the men
had scrambled eggs and bread.

All God's Critters

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune: (very low, please turn up your sound)
Lyrics:Chorus:
All God's critters got a place in the choir
Some sing lower and some sing higher
Some sing out loud on the telephone wire
And some just clap their hands or paws,
Or anything they got now.

Listen to the bass, it's the one on the bottom
Where the bullfrog croaks and the hippopotamus
Moans and groans with a big t'do
And the old cow just goes moo.

The dogs and the cats they take up the middle
While the honeybee hums and the cricket fiddles,
The donkey brays and the pony neighs
And the old coyote howls.
Chorus

Listen to the top where the little birds sing
On the melodies with the high notes ringing,
The hoot owl hollers over everything
And the jaybird disagrees.

Singin' in the night time, singing in the day,
The little duck quacks, then he's on his way.
The 'possum ain't got much to say
And the porcupine talks to himself.
Chorus

It's a simple song of living sung everywhere
By the ox and the fox and the grizzly bear,
The grumpy alligator the the hawk above,
The sly raccoon and the turtle dove.
Chorus

America

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From ev'ry mountainside
Let freedom ring.

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills,
My heart with rapture thrills
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees,
Sweet freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake,
Let all that breathes partake,
Let rocks for silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of liberty
To thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our King.

America, the Beautiful

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

Announcements

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Announcements, announcements, announcements!
What a terrible way to die,
A terrible way to die,
A terrible way to be talked to death.
A terrible way to die.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(London Bridge)
Make the announcements short and sweet,
Short and sweet,
Short and sweet.
Make the announcemnts short and sweet,
They're so BORING!

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(Ever Seen a Windmill)
Have you ever seen a windbag,
A windbag, a windbag?
Have you ever seen a windbag?
Well, there's one right now.
Swings this way and that way,
And this way and that way,
Have you ever seen a windbag?
Well there's one RIGHT NOW!

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(Freres Jaques)
Words of wisdom,
Words of wisdom.
Here they come,
Here they come.
Boring words of wisdom,
Boring words of wisdom.
Dum, dum, dum,
Dum, dum, dum.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor)
What do you do with a loud Cubmaster?
What do you do with a loud Cubmaster?
What do you do with a loud Cubmaster,
Early in the evening?

Hit him in the face with a chocolate cream pie!
Hit him in the face with a chocolate cream pie!
Hit him in the face with a chocolate cream pie,
Early in the evening!

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Throw the announcements overboard and listen to them scream.
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
Ha Ha! Fooled you,
I'm a submarine.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
The man stood up to talk.
He talked real long and hard.
He talked so long I wrote this song,
On the lid of a can of lard!
He's got something to say.
I'm sure it must be good.
But if he talks too long today,
we'll leave its understood.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
We've got a silly cheer,
That you've just got to hear!
It makes no sense we're sure you know,
The announcements have to GO!

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Mine eyes have seen the glory
of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage
where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He has loosed the fateful lightning
of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.

Chorus: Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on

In the beauty of a stable
Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His presence
that transfigures you and me,
And he died to make men holy,
Let us live to make men free;
While God is marching on.
Chorus

Chicken Sandwich
I walk into a restaurant
And this is what I cry:
'I want a chicken sandwich,
Cup of coffee, piece of pie.'
Oh, you will surely hear me
Sing this song until I die!
'I want a chicken sandwich,
Cup of coffee, piece of pie.'

It isn't any trouble just to S-M-I-L-E
It isn't any trouble just to S-M-I-L-E
There isn't any trouble that won't vanish like a bubble,
If you only take the trouble just to S-M-I-L-E.

It isn't any trouble just to G-R-I-N, grin.

It isn't any trouble just to L-A-U-G-H

It isn't any trouble just to HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

I went fishing at the lake
With worms and pole and pail,
To catch a fish for supper,
But instead I caught a whale.
I climbed upon his slippery back,
And took myself a ride,
But he swam so fast I slipped right off,
And landed right inside.

Glory, glory hallelujah,
That's a tall tale I told to ya,
Shakes and shivers running through ya,
(Spoken) Here comes another one, worse than the other one.

An astronaut invited me
To take a ride in space.
We blasted off one morning,
For a most unusual place.
We landed on a planet,
After many weeks of flight;
We saw three-headed elephants,
A most unusual sight.

Glory, glory hallelujah
That's a tall tale I told to ya.
Do you believe that it is true, ya?
(Spoken) Well it's not!

I dug a hole to plant a tree
One warm and sunny day.
I dug so deep I couldn't get out
To run and jump and play.
I thought to keep on digging
Was the best thing I could do.
So I made a hole clean through the earth,
And then I fell right through.

Glory, glory hallelujah
That's the last tale I'll tell to ya,
Aren't you glad that I am through, ya?
(Spoken) Thank goodness!!

Battle Hymn Scouting Verses

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:The Weekend
I have seen the sky in darkness, I have seen it in the sun,
I have felt the rain upon me, I’ve enjoyed the snowy fun.
When the weather isn’t cloudy or the wind it doesn’t blow.
It isn’t only raining, it’s the weekend too, you know.
Glory, glory, it’s the weekend!
Glory, glory, it’s the weekend!
I can tell because it’s raining and it’s 42 below,
As we Scouts go marching on.

Ode to a Den Leader
After raising six sweet daughters, I was glad to have a son.
I thought of all the games we'd play, the picnics, hikes and fun.
I thought of how we'd sit and talk for hours when day is done.
Oh, wasn't I the foolish one.

Chorus:
Glory, glory, I'm a leader.
How'd I get to be a leader?
All I ever wanted was to have a little fun
Cub Scouting with my son.

I tried to make excuses and their pleas to ignore.
I said, 'I'm not equipped!' they said, 'Oh, yes you are, what more,
We will train you in the basics and outfit you for the corps.'
And they shoved me out the door.

Chorus

They taught me how to sing a song and how to tie a knot.
They taught me how to do a skit, make puppets on the spot.
They taught me all I'd need to know, at least that's what I thought.
'Til a Cub came in with a snake that he'd caught!

Chorus

The time arrived for hiking, just my Webelos den and me.
They say the woods are full of many sights for you to see.
I know we sure were sights when we were found, eventually.
And I do this all for free.

Chorus

But even though I mumble and I grumble and I pout
And many times I wonder what's the best way to get out.
When all is said and done there really isn't any doubt.
I'm glad to be a scout!

Glory, glory, I'm a leader!
I'm so glad to be a leader!
When all is said and done and then they lay me to my rest,
They'll say I did my best!

Be a Good Scout

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Be a good Scout, and always wear a smile,
Be a good Scout, be cheerful all the while,
It's the creed, yes indeed, that a Scout must practice gaily.

Help those in need - do a Good Turn daily,
Be a good Scout - be Loyal, Clean and Brave,
Never say die, just let your banner wave,
On your honor, do your best
When they put you to the test.
And always be a good scout.

Deanna Durbin sang this in the 1938 movie "That Certain Age" - View Video

Be Kind to Your Webfooted Friends

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Be kind to your web-footed friends
For that duck may be somebody's mother,
She lives in a nest in a swamp
Where the weather is always damp.

You may think that this is the end,
Well it is, but to prove we're all liars,
We're going to sing it again,
Only this time we'll sing a little higher.

[Repeat the song but sing it a bit higher. Continue for as many rounds as you can stand.]

Finally, end with:
You may think that this is the end....
Well you're right!

Be kind to your old umbrella,
For some day it may be under the weather.
Be kind to your old pair of shoes,
And they'll keep out the rain and mud.

Be kind to your fur-bearing friends,
For a skunk may be somebody's brother.
Be kind to your friends with the stripes
Including raccoons and snipes.

Bill Grogan's Goat
A Favorite Song

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:

Leader sings and then everyone repeats at each (*)
Lyrics:Bill Grogan's goat,* was feeling fine.*
Ate three red shirts,* right off the line.*

Bill took a stick,* gave him three whacks,*
And tied him to,* the railroad tracks.*

The whistle blew,* the train grew nigh;*
Bill Grogan's goat,* was doomed to die.*

He gave three moans,* of mortal pain,*
Barfed up those shirts,* and flagged that train.*

The Engineer,* got out to see,*
What in the world,* this thing could be.*

And when he saw,* It was a goat,*
Pulled out his knife,* and cut it's throat.*

Now Billy Goat* is really dead,*
He went to heaven,* without a head.*

And when he got there,* St. Peter said,*
'Dear Billy Goat,* where is your head?'*

I do not know,* I can not tell,*
For all I know,* It just may be ...*

Way down yonder in the paw paw patch.*

(can migrate right into the Paw Paw Patch song)

Billboard

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Lyrics:Version 1
As I was walking down the street a billboard caught my eye.
The advertising that was there would make you laugh or cry.
The wind and rain had almost washed that old billboard away.
But the advertising painted there would have that billboard say:

Have a smoke of Coca-Cola. Chew catsup cigarette's.
Watch Lillian Russell wrestle with a box of oysterettes.
Pork and beans will meet tonight in a finish fight.
Hear Chauncey DePeeuw speak upon sapolio tonight.

Bay rum is good for horses; it is the best in town.
Castoria cures the measles, if you pay ten dollars down.
Teeth extracted without pain, a nickel or half a dime.
Ingersolls are selling now, a little behind the times.

Chew Wrigleys for that headache. Eat Campbells for that cough.
There's going to be a swimming bee at the village watering trough.
Buy a case of ginger-ale, it makes the best of broth.
Shinola's good to curl the hair, it will not rub it off!

Version 2
As I was walking down the street one dark and gloomy day
I came upon a billboard and much to my dismay
The sign was torn and tattered from the storm the night before
The wind and rain had done it's work and this is what I saw:

Smoke Coca-Cola cigarettes, chew Wrigley's Spearmint beer,
Ken-L Ration Dog Food keeps your wife's complexion clear
Simonize your baby with a Hershey's candy bar
And Texaco's the beauty cream that's used by all the stars.

So take your next vacation in a brand new Frigidaire
Learn to play the piano in your winter underwear
Doctors say that babies should smoke until they're three
And people over 65 should bathe in Lipton Tea.

Boom Boom Ain't It Great to be Crazy

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Chorus:
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy? (or Camping, or Scouting, or ...)
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?
Giddy and foolish the whole day through
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?

A horse and a flea and three blind mice
Sat on a curbstone shooting dice
The horse he slipped and fell on the flea
'Whoops,' said the flea, 'There's a horse on me!'
- Chorus

Way down South where bananas grow
A grasshopper stepped on an elephant's toe
The elephant cried, with tears in his eyes
'Why don't you pick on someone your own size?'
- Chorus

Way up North where there's ice and snow
There lived a penguin and his name was Joe
He got so tired of black and white
He wore pink pajamas to the dance last night!
- Chorus

Eli, Eli had some socks
A dollar a pair and a nickel a box
The more you wear 'em the better they get
And you put 'em in the water and they don't get wet!
- Chorus

Late last night, I had a real strange dream,
Ate a nine-pound marshmallow my mom gave me,
When I woke up, I knew somethinf was wrong,
I looked around and saw my pillow was gone!
- Chorus

Buffalo Gals

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Chorus: Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight?
Come out tonight, Come out tonight?
Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight,
And dance by the light of the moon.

As I was walking down the street,
Down the street, down the street,
A pretty gal I chance to meet
Under the silvery moon.
Chorus

I asked her if she'd stop and talk,
Stop and talk, Stop and talk,
Her feet covered up the whole sidewalk,
She was fair to view.
Chorus

I asked her if she'd have a dance, have a dance, have a dance
I thought that I might get a chance to shake a foot with her
Chorus

I danced with a gal with a hole in her stockin',
And her heel kep' a-rockin' and her toe kep' a-knockin',
I danced with a gal with a hole in her stockin',
And we danced by the light of the moon.
Chorus

I asked her if she'd be my wife,
Be my wife, be my wife
Then I'd be happy all my life,
If she'd marry me.
Chorus

Bug Juice

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune: (On Top of Old Smokey)
Lyrics:At camp with the Boy Scouts,
they gave us a drink.
We thought it was kool-aid
because it was pink.

But the thing that they gave us
would gross out a moose,
for that great-tasting pink drink
was really bug juice.

It looked fresh and fruity
like tasty kool-aid
but the bugs that were in it
were murdered with raid.

We drank it by gallons.
We drank it by tons.
But, then the next morning
we all had the runs.

So if you drink bug juice
and a fly drives you mad
he's just getting even
because you swallowed his dad.

Bye bye long johns.

How I miss that old trap door behind me.

Call a Scout

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune: If You're Happy
Lyrics:When you're down and feeling blue,
Call a Scout.
They will know just what to do,
Call a Scout.
If you're ever in a hurry,
Don't take the time to worry,
All you have to do is shout,
Call a Scout.

If you need a helping hand,
Call a Scout.
They'll take your garbage out,
Call a Scout.
If the traffic that you meet,
Has you scared to cross the street,
They'll be there to help you out,
Call a Scout.

Now the Scouts are always helpful,
Don't you see.
They will lend a helping hand,
To you and me.
For they're wise in what they do.
They are kind and cheerful too.
And they always help you out.
Call a Scout.

Camp

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:The busses that you ride in,
they say are mighty fine.
But when they turn a corner,
they leave the wheels behind.

Chorus:
Hey, Ma, I wanna go
But, they won't let me go
Hey, Ma, I wanna go home!

The leaders that they have here,
they say are mighty fine.
But when you get up closer,
they look like Frankenstein.

The first aid that they give you,
they say is mighty fine.
But if you cut your finger,
you're left with only nine.

The water that they have here,
they say is mighty fine.
But when you try to drink it,
it tastes like turpentine.

The biscuits that they serve you,
they say are mighty fine.
But one rolled off the table
and killed a pal of mine.

The spaghetti that they serve you,
they say is mighty fine.
They rinse it the toilet
and drain it on the line.

The cocoa that they serve you,
they say is mighty fine.
It's good for cuts and bruises
and tastes like iodine.

The tents that you sleep in,
they say are mighty fine,
But whoever said this
has never slept in mine.

The toilets that they have here
are the best that they can get.
Last night my tent mate had to go,
they haven't found him yet.

Campfires that they have here
they say are mighty bright.
You wake up in the morning
and there's not a tree in sight.

The nurses that they have here
they say are mighty fine.
But if you break a finger
they break the other nine.

The girls that they have here
they say are mighty fine.
But they're either under seven
or over ninety-nine.

Camp Granada

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Hello muddah, hello faddah
Here I am at Camp Granada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.

I went hiking with Joe Spivy.
He developed poison ivy.
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.

All the counselors hate the waiters
And the lake has alligators
And the head coach wants no sissies
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses.

Now I don't want this should scare ya
But my bunkmate has malaria.
You remember Jeffrey Hardy
They're about to organize a searching party.

Take me home, oh muddah, fadduh
Take me home, I hate Granada!
Don't leave me out in the forest

Where I might get eaten by a bear.

Take me home, I promise I will not make noise,
Or mes the house with other boys.
Oh, please don't make me stay,
I've been here one whole day.

Dearest fadduh, darling muddah,
How's my precious little bruddah?
Let me come home, if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me.

Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing.
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
Playing baseball, gee that's bettah
Muddah, faddah kindly disregard this letter!

Follow On version

Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh.
I am back at Camp Granada.
And I'm writing you this letter
Just to say my compound fracture's getting better.

No one here knows where my trunk is
And my bunk is where the skunk is.
And this year the food's improving
'Cause the little black things in it are not moving.

Our camp nurse is quite a swimmer.
She says swimming makes you slimmer.
Her name's Mrs. Balagreeni.
Have you ever seen a whale in a bikini?

All our bathrooms have such thin doors.
Gee, I wish they'd move them indoors.
We're all tired of Mother Goose here.
So next Friday night they're having Lenny Bruce here.

Let me stay, oh Muddah, Fadduh.
Let me stay, I love Granada.
Every night the camp fire's really keen.
Oh mom, please send some Ovaltine.

Let me stay, out here in mother nature's land
And tip-toe through the tulips grand.
To leave would be a shame.
Besides, I'd miss the poker game.

Please don't worry, Fadduh, Muddah.
I'll take care of little brudda.
He plays ball here and he rows here
And I hope they teach him how to blow his nose here.

He wakes up at half past six and
Goes directly to the quick sand.
He was lonely, now he's better.
He's like all of us except his bed is wetter.

Can't Get to Heaven

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Oh, you can't get to Heaven in an old Ford car
'Cause an old Ford car won't get that far

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a ping pong ball
'Cause a ping pong ball is much too small

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a limousine
'Cause the Lord ain't got no gasoline

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a Sabre Jet
'Cause the Lord ain't got no runways yet

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a Girl Scout's arms
'Cause the Lord don't fall for those feminine charms

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a rocking chair
'Cause the Lord don't want no lazybones there

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a wicker chair
'Cause the Lord don't want no baskets there

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a biscuit tin
'Cause a biscuit tin's got biscuits in

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in an apple tree
'Cause an apple tree's got roots you see

Oh, you can't get to Heaven on roller skates
You'd roll right by them Pearly Gates

You'll never get to heaven in your girlfriend's bra
'Cause your girlfriend's bra can't stretch that far

Oh, you can't get to Heaven on a Honda bike
'Cause you'll get halfway, then you'll have to hike

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in our row boat
'Cause our row boat won't even float.

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in dirty jeans
'Cause heaven's got no washing machines.

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a Kleenex box
'Cause God don't like no dirty snots.

Oh, you can't get to Heaven on a pair of skis
You'll shuss right through St. Peter's knees.

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in our Leader's pants
'Cause his pants are full of ants

Oh, you can't get to Heaven on water skis
'Cause the angels don't like hairy knees

Oh, you can't get to Heaven with powder and paint
'Cause it makes you look like what you ain't

Oh, you can't get to Heaven in a strapless gown
'Cause that gown thing might fall right down

Oh I want to go to heaven, and I want to do it right
So I'll go up to heaven all dressed in white

Oh one fine day, and it won't be long
You'll look for me, and I'll be gone

And if you get to heaven before I do
Just drill a hole and pull me through

But if I get to heaven before you do
I'll drill a hole and spit on you

Well if I get to heaven, before you do
I'll plug that hole, with shavings and glue

That's all there is, there is no more
St. Peter said, as he shut the door

Oh there's one more thing I forgot to tell
If you don't go to heaven, you'll go to...bed

And that's the end, St. Peter said
As he closed the gates, And went to bed.

Oh, K, I'm fillin' in
E, I'm near the end
Oh, C H I C K E N - that am the way to spell Chicken.

Oh, Rufus, Rastus, Johnson Brown
Whatcha gonna do when the rent comes round?
Whatcha gonna say, whatcha gonna pay,
Whatcha gonna do no the judgment day?
Oh, you know, I know, rent means dough.
Landlord'll throw you out in the snow.
Oh, Rufus, Rastus, Johnson Brown
Whatcha gonna go when the rent comes round?

Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Oh, when I was a camper, I never liked to eat;
the cook put things upon my plate, I'd dump them on his feet;
but then one day he made this soup, I ate it all in bed;
I asked him what he put in it, and this is what he said.

Chorus:
Oh, chicken lips and lizard hips and alligator eyes;
monkey legs and buzzard eggs and salamander thighs;
rabbit ears and camel rears and tasty toenail pies;
stir them all together, it's called Sludge Soup Surprise.

I went into the bathroom and stood beside the sink;
I said I'm feeling slightly ill, I think I'd like a drink;
The cook he said, "I've just the thing, I'll get it in a wink;
it's full of lots of protein, and vitamins I think."
- Chorus

Chivalrous Shark

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Download Tune
Lyrics:Most chivalrous fish of the ocean
To ladies forbearing and mild,
Though his record be dark,
is the man-eating shark,
Who will eat neither woman nor child.

He dines upon seamen and skippers,
And tourists his hunger assuage,
And a fresh cabin boy
will inspire him with joy
If he's past the maturity age.

A doctor, a lawyer, a preacher,
He'll gobble one any fine day,
But the ladies, God bless 'em
He'll only address 'em
Politely and go on his way.

I can readily cite you an instance
Where a lovely young lady of Breem,
Who was tender and sweet
and delicious to eat
Fell into the bay with a scream.

She struggled and flounced in the water,
And signaled in vain for her bar,
And she'd surely been drowned
if she hadn't been found
By a chivalrous man-eating shark.

He bowed in a manner most polished
Thus soothing her impulses wild.
"Don't be frightened," he said,
"I've been properly bred,
And will eat neither woman nor child."

Then her proffered his fin and she took it
Such gallantry none can dispute.
While the passengers cheered
as the vessel they neared
And a broadside was fired in salute.

And they soon stood alongside the vessel,
When a life-saving dinghy was lowered
With the pick of the crew,
And her relatives too
And the mate and the skipper aboard.

So they took her aboard in a jiffy,
And the shark stood attention the while,
Then he raised on his flipper
and ate up the skipper
And went on his way with a smile.

And this shows that the prince of the ocean,
To ladies forbearing and mild,
Though his record be dark
Is the man-eating shark,
Who will eat neither woman nor child.

Clementine

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:
Lyrics:In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine,
Lived a miner, forty-niner, and his daughter Clementine.

Chorus:
Oh my darling, Oh my darling, Oh my darling Clementine,
You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine.

Light she was, and like a fairy, and her shoes were number nine,
Herring boxes without topses, sandals were for Clementine.

Drove she ducklings to the water every morning just at nine,
Hit her foot against a splinter, fell into the foaming brine.

Ruby lips above the water, blowing bubbles soft and fine,
Alas for me! I was no swimmer, so I lost my Clementine.

In a churchyard near the canyon, where the myrtle does entwine,
There grow roses and other posies, fertilized by Clementine.

Then the miner, forty-niner, soon began to peak and pine,
Thought he oughter join his daughter, now he's with his Clementine.

In my dreams she still does haunt me, robed in garments soaked in brine,
While in life I used to hug her, now she's dead I draw the line.

How I missed her, how I missed her, how I missed my Clementine,
Until I kissed her little sister, and forgot my Clementine.

Now you Scouts all heed my warning in this tragic tale of mine,
Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation would have saved my Clementine.

Coming of the Frogs

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic
Lyrics:Mine eyes have seen the horror
of the coming of the frogs.
They are sneaking thru the swamps
and they are lurking in the logs.
You can hear their mournful croaking
through the early morning fog.
The frogs keep hopping on.

Chorus:
Ribbet, ribbet, ribbet, croak, croak.
Ribbet, ribbet, ribbet, croak, croak.
Ribbet, ribbet, ribbet, croak, croak.
The frogs keep hopping on.

The frogs have grown in numbers
and their croaking fills the air.
There's no place to escape
because the frogs are everywhere.
They've eaten all the flies
and now they're hungry as a bear.
The frogs keep hopping on.
(Chorus)

They've hopped into the living room
and headed down the hall.
They've have trapped me in the corner
and my back's against the wall.
And when I opened up my mouth
to give a warning call,
This was all I heard.
(Chorus)

Crazy Moose

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:(audience repeats after leader)

There was a crazy moose (there was a crazy moose)
Who liked to drink a lot of juice (who liked to drink a lot of juice)
There was a crazy moose (there was a crazy moose)
Who liked to drink a lot of juice (who liked to drink a lot of juice)

Chorus
Singing way-oh, way oh (singing way-oh, way-oh)
Way-up, way-up, way-up way-up (way-up, way-up, way-up, way-up)
Way oh, way oh (way oh, way oh)
Way-up, way-up, way-up, way-up (way-up, way-up, way-up way-up)

The moose's name was Fred.
He liked to drink his juice in bed.

He drank his juice with care,
But he spilled some in his hair.

Now he’s a sticky moose.
A moose covered in juice.

All his hair went stiff.
So he combed it in a quiff.

His friends began to laugh.
So he had to take a bath.

As the water went down,
Fred the moose began to drown.
Singing glug-glug-glug-glug

Now let's all count to five.
Fred the moose is back alive.

Daniel Boone

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Daniel Boone was a man,
Yes, a big man!
With an eye like an eagle
And as tall as a mountain was he!

Daniel Boone was a man,
Yes, a big man!
He was brave, he was fearless
And as tough as a mighty oak tree!

From the coonskin cap on the top of ol' Dan
To the heel of his rawhide shoe;
The rippin'est, roarin'est, fightin'est man
The frontier ever knew!

Daniel Boone was a man,
Yes, a big man!
And he fought for America
To make all Americans free!

What a Boone, what a do-er,
What a dream come-er true-er was he!

Davy Crockett

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
Greenest state in the Land of the Free
Raised in the woods so's he knew every tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three.
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier!

In eighteen thirteen the Creeks uprose
Addin' redskin arrows to the country's woes
Now, Injun fightin' is somethin' he knows
So he shoulders his rifle an' off he goes.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The man who don't know fear!

Off through the woods he's a marchin' along
Makin' up yarns an' a singin' a song
Itchin' for fightin' and rightin' a wrong
He's ringy as a b'ar and twice as strong.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The buckskin buccaneer!

Andy Jackson is our general's name
His reg'lar soldiers we'll put to shame
Them redskin varmints us volunteers'll tame
'Cause we got the guns with the sure-fire aim.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The champion of us all!

Headed back to war from the ol' home place
But Red Stick was leadin' a merry chase
Fightin' and burnin' at a devil's pace
South to the swamps on the Florida Trace.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Trackin' the redskins down!

Fought single-handed through the Injun War
Till the Creeks was whipped an' peace was in store
And while he was handlin' this risky chore
Made hisself a legend for evermore.
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier!

He give his word and he give his hand
That his Injun friends could keep their land
And the rest of his life he took the stand
That justice was due every redskin band.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Holdin' his promise dear!

Home fer the winter with his family,
Happy as squirrels in the ol' gum tree,
Bein' the father he wanted to be,
Close to his boys as the pod and the pea.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Holdin' his young 'uns dear!

But the ice went out and the warm winds came
And the meltin' snow showed tracks of game
And the flowers of Spring filled the woods with flame
And all of a sudden life got too tame.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Headin' on West again!

Off through the woods we're ridin' along
Makin' up yarns and singin' a song
He's ringy as a b'ar and twice as strong
And knows he's right 'cause he ain't often wrong.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The man who don't know fear!

Lookin' fer a place where the air smells clean
Where the trees is tall and the grass is green
Where the fish is fat in an untouched stream
And the teamin' woods is a hunter's dream.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Lookin' fer Paradise!

Now he'd lost his love an his grief was gall
In his heart he wanted to leave it all
And lose himself in the forests tall
But he answered instead his country's call.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Beginnin' his campaign!

Needin' his help they didn't vote blind
They put in Davy 'cause he was their kind
Sent up to Nashville the best they could find
A fightin' Spirit and a thinkin' mind.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The man who don't know fear!

The votes were counted and he won hands down
So they sent him off to Washin'ton town
With his best dress suit still his buckskins brown
A livin' legend of growin' reknown.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The Canebrake Congressman!

He went off to Congress and served a spell
Fixin' up the Gover'ment and laws as well
Took over Washin'ton so we heared tell
And patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Seein' his duty clear!

Him and his jokes travelled all through the land
And his speeches made him friends to beat the band
His politickin' was their favorite brand
And everyone wanted to shake his hand.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Helpin' his legend grow!

He knew when he spoke he sounded the knell
Of his hopes for White House and fame as well
But he spoke out strong so hist'ry books tell
And patched up the crack In the liberty Bell.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Seein' his duty clear!

When he come home his politickin' done
The western march had just begun
So he packed his gear and his trusty gun
And lit out grinnin' to follow the sun.
Davy, Davy Crockett, Leadin' the pioneer!

He heard of Houston and Austin and so
To the Texas plains he jest had to go
Where freedom was fightin' another foe
And they needed him at the Alamo.
Davy, Davy Crockett, The man who don't know fear!

His land is biggest and his land is best
From grassy plains to the mountain crest
He's ahead of us all meetin' the test
Followin' his legend into the West.
Davy Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier!

Day Old Bakery
Chorus:
Day-o, me say day-o
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
Day-o, me say day-o
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Year old Twinkies still look fresh.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
But if you eat 'em you get a rash.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Stay away from the cream-filled stuff.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
See some green stuff, just cut it off.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Noon to six it's 2 for 1.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
A chocolate doughnut and a Cinnabun.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Donuts stale but the coffee’s hot!
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
I'll share the cup that I just bought.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Apple fritters, they slide right down.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
They taste as good, second time around.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Eat the donuts the cops won't buy.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
Jelly-filled ones bounce real high.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Come Mr. Baker Man, bake me some doughnuts.
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.
Day-o, me say day-o
Day Old Bakery's the one for me.

Deep in the Heart of Cub Scouts

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune: Deep in the Heart of Texas

Lyrics:Where Tigers growl,
And Wolf cubs howl,
Deep in the heart of Cub Scouts.

Where big Bears tramp,
And Webelos camp,
Deep in the heart of Cub Scouts.

Where Den Leaders walk,
And Cubmasters talk,
Deep in the heart of Cub Scouts.

The Blue and Gold,
Stands big and bold,
Deep in the heart of Cub Scouts.

The stars at night,
are big and bright,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The prairie sky
is wide and high,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The sage in bloom
is like perfume,
deep in the heart of Texas.

Reminds me of,
the one I love,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The coyotes wail,
along the trail,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The rabbits rush,
around the brush,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The cowboys cry,
"Ki-yip-pee-yi,"
deep in the heart of Texas.

The dogies bawl,
and bawl and bawl,
deep in the heart of Texas.

Dixie

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:I wish I was in the land of Cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

In Dixie Land where I was born in
early on one frosty morning'
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

Chorus
Then I wish I was in Dixie
Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land
I'll take my stand
To live and die in Dixie
Away! Away! Away!
Down South in Dixie.
Away! Away! Away!
Down South in Dixie.

Ole Missus marry "will the weaver"
Willum was a gay deceiver
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
But when he put his arm around er,
He smiled fierce as a forty pounder,
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver
But that did not seem to grieve 'er
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
Ole Missus acted the foolish part
And died for a man that broke her heart
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

Now here's a health to the next ole Missus
An' all the gals that want to kiss us;
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
But if you want to drive 'way sorrow
Come and hear this song tomorrow
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

There's buckwheat cakes and Injun batter,
Makes you fat or a little fatter;
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
Then hoe it down and scratch your gravel,
To Dixie's Land I'm bound to travel,
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

Do Your Ears Hang Low

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Lyrics:Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they droop when they're wet?
Do they stiffen when they're dry?
Can you semaphore your neighbor with a mimimum of labor?
Do your ears hang high?

Do your ears hang wide?
Do they flap from side to side?
Do they wave in the breeze?
From the slightest little sneeze?
Can you soar above the nation with a feeling of elation?
Do your ears hang wide?

Do your ears flip-flop?
Can you use them for a mop?
Are they stringy at the bottom?
Are they curly at the top?
Can you use them for a swatter?
Can you use them for a blotter?
Do your ears flip-flop?

Do your ears hang askew?
Can you use one stirring stew,
while the other’s picking berries,
or making mountain dew?
Can you hold an elevator,
while you signal to a waiter?
Do your ears hang askew?

Do your ears fall off?
When you give a great big cough?
Do they lie there on the ground?
Or bounce up at every sound?
Can you stick them in your pocket like little Davy Crockett?
Do your ears fall off?

Do your eyeballs droop?
Do they wobble in your soup?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a loop?
Can you throw them o’er your shoulder,
Like a continental soldier?
Do your eyeballs droop?

Does your nose hang down?
Does it drag upon the ground?
Can you tie it in a knot?
Can you tie it in a crown?
Can you throw it over your shoulder,
Like a continental soldier?
Does your nose hang down?

Do your eyes bug out?
Do they roll around your snout?
Do you go cross-eyed,
When you’re looking for a trout?
Can you see your image clearer,
Without looking in the mirror?
Do your eyes bug out?

Don't Wear No Socks
A Favorite Song

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:(Instead of "Your Momma", you could use "Camp Staff", "Boy Scouts", "Our Gang", ... whatever you want)

Your Mama don't wear no socks
A ding dong
I saw 'em when she took 'em off
A ding dong
She threw them in the tree
A ding dong
Now the dogs refuse to pee
A ding dong dong dong dong
A ding dong dong dong dong
A ding dong

She threw them on my bed - now my poor Teddy's dead
She threw them in her bed - now dad sleeps in the shed
She threw them under the bed - left all the cockroaches dead
She served them up for lunch - but no one wanted much
She put them in the fridge - now we all live under a bridge
She threw them in the sky - now Superman refuses to fly
She threw them in the air - now Superman's on medicare
She threw them over the fence - haven't seen the neighbor since
She threw them on the wall - now Spiderman won't crawl
She threw them on the ceiling - now the paint's all peeling
She threw them in a boat - now that boat can't float
She threw them at the cat - now the cat's a welcome mat
She threw them on the clock - now the clock don't tick or tock
She threw them up towards heaven - brought down a 7-4-7
She threw them in the garbage can - killed 3 rats and the garbage man
She threw them in the washing machine - now all the clothes are green
She threw them at a squirrel - made that poor squirrel hurl
She threw them at a rock - that rock got up and walked
She threw them at a bus - you should have heard it cuss
She threw them at a flower - now it's praying for an April shower
She threw them in the fire - that made the fire expire
She threw them in my Coke – I took a sip and nearly croaked.
She threw them at the sun – Made the sun dial 911
She threw them on a telephone wire - Started the Chicago fire
She threw them in a hole - Wouldn't touch 'em with a 10 foot pole
She thew them in outer space - That's the end of the human race
She threw them at King Kong - That's the end of this silly song

Erik the Viking

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune: (Mr. Ed)
Lyrics:A Norse is a Norse of course, of course,
But who's ever heard of a snoring Norse,
Unless, of course, that snoring Norse is
That viking, Erik the Red.

Go right to the source and ask a Norse
If he ever rode on a viking horse.
A member of the Viking force
Is the famous Erik the Red.

Vikings like to sail around to pass the time of day.
But Erik the Red will always sail after his old beard turns gray.

A Norse is a Norse, of course,
And the loudest of all the snoring Norse
Is the famous Norse who looks like a horse,
The famous, Erik the Red.

Mr. Ed
A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
and no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.

Go right to the source and ask the horse
he'll give you the answer that you'll endorse.
He's always on a steady course.
Talk to Mr. Ed

People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day
But Mister Ed will never speak unless he has something to say.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
and this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?
Well listen to this.
'I am Mister Ed.'

Father's Old Grey Whiskers

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Lyrics:I have a dear old daddy
For whom I nightly pray,
He has a set of whiskers,
They're always in the way.

Chorus:
They're always in the way,
The cows eat them for hay,
They hide the dirt on Daddy's shirt,
They're always in the way.

Around the supper table,
We make a happy group,
Until dear father's whiskers,
Get tangled in the soup.
Chorus

Father had a strong back,
But now it's all caved in,
He stepped upon his whiskers,
And walked up to his chin.
Chorus

We have a dear old mother,
With him at night she sleeps,
She wakes up in the morning,
Eating shredded wheat.
Chorus

We have a dear old Mommy,
She likes his whiskers, too.
She uses them for cleaning
And stirring up a stew.
Chorus

We have a dear old brother
Who has a Ford machine.
He uses Daddy's whiskers
To strain the gasoline.
Chorus

We have a dear old sister.
It really is a laugh.
She sprinkles Daddy's whiskers
As bath salts in her bath.
Chorus

We have a little brother,
His name is Sonny Jim.
He climbs up daddy's whiskers
To sock him in the chin
Chorus

We have a little sister,
Her name is Mary Anne.
She uses daddy's whiskers
To wipe the frying pan.
Chorus

We have another sister,
Her name is Ida Mae.
She climbs up Daddy's whiskers
And braids them every day.
Chorus

Daddy fought in Flanders,
He wasn't killed, you see:
His whiskers looked like bushes
And fooled the enemy.
Chorus

When Daddy goes in swimming,
No bathing suit for him.
He ties his whiskers 'round his waist
And happily jumps in.
Chorus

Daddy went out sailing,
The wind blew down the mast.
He hoisted up his whiskers
And never went so fast.
Chorus

Daddy was in a tavern;
He likes his lager beer.
He pinned a pretzel to his nose
And kept his whiskers clear.
Chorus

Near the dark and murky Rhine.
Dwelt a doctor, the concoctor,
Of the monster, Frankenstein.

Chorus

Dreadful scary Frankenstein.

In a graveyard, near the castle,

From the pieces he did find.
And with lightning he animated
The scary monster Frankenstein.

Til with torches, they did chase him,
To the castle by the Rhine.

Ghost Chickens in the Sky

Intended for:All Scouts
Preparation:Nothing really needed at all, but we had some action during each chorus with 'chickens' (wearing disposable rubber gloves like swim caps) and a farmer (with a cardboard cut out axe) chasing each other around. Also if someone knows the guitar chords for the original song it adds a lot to have the accompaniment
Notes:The Tune: (Ghost Riders in the Sky)
Lyrics:A chicken farmer went out one dark and dreary day,
He stopped to sit beside the coup to break along his way,
When all at once a rotten egg hit him in the eye,
It was a sight he dreaded...Ghost Chickens in the sky.

(Chorus)
Bawk, bawk bawk bawwwwwkk,
Bawk, bawk bawk bawwwwwkk,
Ghost Chickens in the sky

The farmer had raised chickens since he was twenty-four
Been workin' for the Colonel some thirty years or more
Raisin' all thise chickens then sending them to fry
Now they want revenge... Those chickens in the sky.
(Chorus)

Their beaks were black and shiny, their eyes a burnin' red,
They had no meat or feathers, these chickens all were dead.
They picked the farmer up and he died by the claw.
They cooked him extra crispy...and ate him with coleslaw.
(Chorus - repeat last line)

Ghost Riders in the Sky

An old cowpoke went rdin' out one dark and windy day.
Upon a ridge, he rested as he went along his way.
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw,
A-plowing through the ragged sky and up a cloudy draw.

Yipppie aye-aaa
Yippie aye-ooh
Ghost riders in the sky.

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel.
Their horns were black and shining and their hot breath he could feel.
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky.
For he saw the riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cry.
Yippie-aye-aaa
Yippie-aye-ooh
Ghost riders in the sky.

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat.
They're riding hard to catch that herd, but they ain't caught 'em yet.
'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky,
On horses snorting fire as they ride hard hear them cry.
Yippie-aye-aaa
Yippie-aye-ooh
Ghost riders in the sky.

As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name.
"If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range,
Then, cowboy, change your ways today or with us you will ride.
A-trying to catch the devil's herd across these endless skies."
Yippie-aye-aaa
Yippie-aye-ooh
Ghost riders in the sky.

Gilligan's Island

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune:
Lyrics:Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
the skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour.
a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
the Minnow would be lost,
the Minnow would be lost.

The ship took ground on the shore of this
uncharted desert isle,
with Giligan, the skipper too,
The millionaire, and his wife,
The movie star,
The professor, and MaryAnn,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

So this is the tale of our castaways,
they're here for a long, long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
it's an uphill climb.

The first mate, and his skipper too,
will do their very best
to make the others comfortable
in this tropic island nest.

No Phones, No lights, No Motorcars,
Not a single luxury.
Like Robinson Crusoe
It's primitive as can be.

So join us here each week, my friend,
you're sure to get a smile,
from seven stranded castaways,
Here on Gilligan's Isle!

Goober Peas

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Sitting by the roadside on a summer's day
Chatting with my mess-mates passing time away
Lying in the shadows underneath the trees
Goodness how delicious eating goober peas.

Chorus:
Peas, peas, peas, peas
Eating goober peas
Goodness how delicious
Eating goober peas.

When a horse-man passes, the soldiers have a rule
To cry out their loudest, 'Mister, where's your mule?'
But another custom, enchanting-er than these
Is wearing out your grinders, eating goober peas.

Chorus

Just before the battle, the General hears a row
He says 'The Yanks are coming, I hear their rifles now.'
He looks down the roadway and what d'you think he sees?
The Georgia Militia cracking goober peas.

Chorus

I think my song has lasted just about enough.
The subject's interesting but the rhymes are mighty rough.
I wish the war was over so free from rags and fleas
We'd kiss our wives and sweethearts, say good-bye to goober peas.

Chorus

Grandma's Feather Bed

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:When I was a little bitty boy, just up off a floor,
We used to go down to Grandma's house every month end or so.
We'd have chicken pie and country ham, homemade butter on the bread.
But the best darn thing about Grandma's house was her great big feather bed.

Chorus:
It was nine feet wide, and six feet high, soft as a downy chick.
Made from the feathers of forty-eleven geese,
took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick.
It'd hold eight kids and four hound dogs and a piggy we stole from the shed.
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun on Grandma's feather bed.

After supper we'd sit around the fire, the old folks'd spit and chew.
Pa would talk about the farm and the war, and Granny'd sing a ballad or two.
I'd sit and listen and watch the fire till the cobwebs filled my head,
Next thing I'd know I'd wake up in the morning
in the middle of the old feather bed.
- Chorus

Well I love my Ma, I love my Pa, I love Granny and Grandpa too.
I been fishing with my uncle, I wrassled with my cousin, I even kissed Aunt Lou, ew!
But if I ever had to make a choice, I guess it oughta be said
That I'd trade 'em all plus the gal down the road for Grandma's feather bed.
- Chorus

And the branch on the tree
And the tree on the root
And the root in the hole
And the hole in the ground
And the green grass grew all around and around
And the green grass grew all around.

And on this wing, there was a feather
The prettiest feather that you ever did see
Well the feather on the wing
And the wing on the bird
And the bird on the egg
And the egg in the nest
And the nest on the twig
And the twig on the branch
And the branch on the tree
And the tree on the root
And the root in the hole
And the hole in the ground
And the green grass grew all around and around
And the green grass grew all around.

Hageleena Mageleena

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Chorus: Hagaleena Magaleena Upa Staka Waka Taka
Oka Poka Loka was her name. (Clap Clap)

There was a funny girl, she had a funny name.
She got it from her pappy just the same, same, same.
Chorus

She had two hairs in the middle of her head
One was alive (put one finger on top of your head)
And the other one was dead (put another finger on top of your head)
Chorus

She had two eyes in the front of her head
One was green and the other was red.
Chorus

She had two teeth in the front of her mouth
One pointed north (put one finger against your mouth, pointing north)
And one the other pointed south (put another finger against your mouth, pointing south)
Chorus

She had two lips, two beautiful lips,
Shaped just like two battleships.
Chorus

Her nose was so long that when she sneezed
It got caught in between her knees.
Chorus

Her ears stuck out like the sails of a boat
Her Adam’s apple wandered up and down her throat.
Chorus

She had two arms in the middle of her body
One knew judo (horizontal karate chop motion)
And the other knew karate (vertical karate chop motion)
Chorus

She loved to polish her fingernails
She bought her polish in ten gallon pails.
Chorus

She had two feet size twelve and a half
One took a shower (kick out one foot)
And the other took a bath (kick out the other foot)
Chorus

Her feet were flat as bathroom mats
I forgot to ask how they got like that.
Chorus

A semi-truck hit Mag-a-leena (slow down during this line)
(back to original tempo) Completely destroyed that poor machina!
Chorus

Happy Birthday - UGH

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Chorus:
Happy Birthday, Ugh.
Happy Birthday, Ugh.
Ha-a-a-a-appy Birthday, Ugh.

  1. Pain and sorrow in the air,
    Death around us everywhere.
    But...

  2. One year closer to the grave,
Think of all the food we'll save
    But...

  3. Easter Bunny broke his leg,
Bled all over the Easter Eggs,
    But...

  4. Santa Claus wrecked his sleigh,
    No more presents Christmas day.
    But...

Happy Wanderer

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go, I love to sing,
My knapsack on my back.

Chorus:
Val-deri, Val-dera,
Val-deri,
Val-dera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Val-deri, Val-dera.
My knapsack on my back.

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun,
So joyously it calls to me,
"Come! Join my happy song!"
-Chorus

I wave my hat to all I meet,
And they wave back to me,
And blackbirds call so loud and sweet
From ev'ry green wood tree.
-Chorus

High overhead, the skylarks wing,
They never rest at home
But just like me, they love to sing,
As o'er the world we roam.
-Chorus

Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh, may I always laugh and sing,
Beneath God's clear blue sky!
-Chorus

I love to go a-gorging
Amid great gobs of food,
And as I do my abdomen
Continues to protrude.

Calorie, calorah,
Calorie, calorah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Calorie, calorah,
My body is obese.

Italian food with all its cheese
And thick tomato paste,
It never seems to pass on through
But hangs around my waist.

French cuisine inspires me
To even greater heights.
An eight-course meal is quickly done
In seven standard bites.

A German meal is all I need
To make my day complete.
It's hard to keep account of all
The strudel that I eat.

At hot dog stands and burger joints
To make my power play,
They bring it in a wheelbarrow
Instead of in a tray.

Hey, Lolly

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Make up simple rhyming verses to keep it going as long as the people want.
Lyrics:Chorus:
Hey lolly, lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
Hey lolly, lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

This is a crazy kind of song,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
You make it up as you go along,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

When guys like us start to sing this song,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
It sometimes lasts the whole night long,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

First you make up a simple line,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
Then another one to rhyme,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

While you catch on, I'll sing a verse,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
Then you do one that's even worse,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

I know a man named Mr. Jones,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
When he sings, everybody groans,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

He sings Hey Lolly day and night,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
It never seems to come out right,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

I know a girl named Emily,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
She sings "Hey Lolly" in just one key,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

Tonight we've chosen another key,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
You won't be hearing from Emily,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

The singer you fast the getter it's tuff,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
To line up makes that you won't muff,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

Let's put this song back on the shelf,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.
If you want anymore you can sing it yourself,
Hey lolly, lolly, low.

Hole in my Bucket

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune: Download
Lyrics:This can be a funny skit if two people have the courage to sing it in front of a group. Singing like an old man and woman is even funnier, with the woman getting more frustrated.

(Two parts - Henry and Liza)

There's a hole in my bucket,
dear Liza, dear Liza,
There's a hole in my bucket,
dear Liza, a hole.

Well fix it, dear Henry,
dear Henry, dear Henry,
Well fix it, dear Henry, well fix it.

With what shall fix it, ...
With straw, ...

The straw is too long, ...
Well cut it, ...

With what shall I cut it, ...
With an axe, ...

The axe is too dull, ...
Then sharpen it, ...

With what shall I sharpen it, ...
With a stone, ...

The stone is too dry, ...
Then wet it, ...

With what shall I wet it, ...
With water, ...

In what shall I fetch it, ...
With a bucket, ...

But there's a hole in my bucket, ...!!!

Home On The Range

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Oh, give me a home, where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Chorus:
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

How often at night, when the heavens are bright
With the light from the glittering stars
I've stood there amazed, and asked, as I gazed,
If their glory exceeds that of ours.

Chorus

The air is so pure, and the zephyrs so free
And the breezes so balmy and light
I would not exchange my home on the range
For all the cities so bright.

Chorus

The Red man was pressed from this part of the west,
He's likely no more to return,
To the banks of the Red River where seldom if ever
Their flickering campfires burn.

Chorus

Oh, I love these wild flowers in this dear land of ours,
The curlew I love to hear cry,
And I love the white rocks and the antelope flocks,
That graze on the mountain slopes high.

Chorus

Oh give me a land where the bright diamond sand,
Flows leisurely down in the stream;
Where the graceful white swan goes gliding along,
Like a maid in a heavenly dream.

Chorus

How often at night, when the heavens are bright,
With the light from the glittering stars,
Have I stood there amazed, and asked as I gaze,
If their glory exceeds that of ours.
Chorus

Yes, give me the gleam of a swift mountain stream,
And the place no hurricanes blow.
Oh, give me the park where the prairie dogs bark,
And the mountains all covered with snow.
Chorus

Oh, give me the hills and the ring of the drills,
And the rich silver ore in the ground.
Yes, give me the gulch where the miners can sluice,
And the bright yellow gold can be found.
Chorus

Oh, give me the mine where the prospectors find
the gold in its own native land,
And the hot springs below, where the sick people go,
And camp on the banks of the Grand.
Chorus

Oh, give me the steed and the gun that I need
To shoot game from my own cabin home.
Then give me the camp where the fire is a lamp,
And the wild rocky mountains to roam.
Chorus

Yes, give me the home where the prospectors roam.
Their business is always alive
In those wild western hills, midst the ring of the drills.
Oh, let me live there ‘till I die.
Chorus

I Wish I Were

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:Tune: 'If You're Happy and You Know It'
Lyrics:Oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap.
Oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap.
I would slippy and I'd slidey,
Over everybody's hidey.
Oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap.

Oh, I wish I were a little hunk of mud.
Oh, I wish I were a little hunk of mud.
I would ooey and I'd gooey,
Under everybody's shoey.
Oh, I wish I were a little hunk of mud.

Oh, I wish I were a little can of pop.
Oh, I wish I were a little can of pop.
I'd go down with a slurp,
and come up with a burp.
Oh, I wish I were a little can of pop.

Oh, I wish I were a little slippery root.
Oh, I wish I were a little slippery root.
I would sit upon the trail,
And knock everyone on his tail.
Oh, I wish I were a little slippery root.

Oh, I wish I were a little mosquito.
Oh, I wish I were a little mosquito.
I'd buzzy and I'd bitey,
Under everybody's nighty.
Oh, I wish I were a little mosquito.

Oh, I wish I were a little squirty orange.
Oh, I wish I were a little squirty orange.
I'd go squirty, squirty, squirty,
Over everybody's shirty.
Oh, I wish I were a little squirty orange.

Oh, I wish I were a little foreign car.
Oh, I wish I were a little foreign car.
I'd go speedy, speedy, speedy
Over everybody's feety.
Oh, I wish I were a little foreign car.

Oh, I wish I were a fishy in the sea.
Oh, I wish I were a fishy in the sea.
Wouldn't I look cute
Without my swimming suit?
Oh, I wish I were a fishy in the sea.

Oh, I wish I were a little safety pin.
Oh, I wish I were a little safety pin.
Wouldn't it be fun
If I suddenly came undone?
Oh, I wish I were a little safety pin.

Oh, I wish I were a little band-aid strip.
Oh, I wish I were a little band-aid strip.
I'd stick to your hairs
And pull them out in pairs.
Oh, I wish I were a little band-aid strip.

Oh, I wish I were a little stinky skunk.
Oh, I wish I were a little stinky skunk.
I'd sit up in the trees
And perfume all the breeze.
Oh, I wish I were a little stinky skunk.

Oh, I wish I were a little sparrow bird.
Oh, I wish I were a little sparrow bird.
I'd sit up on the steeple
and dump on all the peeple.
Oh, I wish I were a little sparrow bird.

Oh, I wish I were a creepy scary ghost.
Oh, I wish I were a creepy scary ghost.
I'd give you such a scare
That you'd lose your underwear.
Oh, I wish I were a creepy scary ghost.

I'm a Nut

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:I'm a little coconut,
Sitting under this here tree.
Everybody steps on me,
That is why I'm cracked you see.

Chorus:
I'm a nut,
I'm a nut,
I'm a nut, nut, nut-nut-nut.

Called myself on the telephone
Just to see if I was home.
Made a date for half past eight,
Better hurry or I'll be late!
- Chorus

Took myself to the picture show
Sat myself in the very last row
Wrapped my arms around my waist
Got so fresh I slapped my face!
- Chorus

Bought some roses at the store.
Told myself I wanted more.
That's why I broke up with me.
Now I am a nut that's free!
- Chorus

Gee, I miss me all the time.
Wonder if I'm doing fine.
Maybe I'll stop by to see
If I have a chance with me.
- Chorus

Coca-Cola went to town,
Pepsi-Cola shot him down.
Dr. Pepper fixed him up,
Now we all drink 7-Up.
- Chorus

I'm My Own Grandpa

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Many, many years ago when I was 23,
I was married to a wider who was purty as can be.
This wider had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red
My father fell in love with her and soon they two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law and changed my very life
For my daughter was my mother cause she was my father's wife
To complicate the matter even though it brought me joy,
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy.

I'm my own grandpa,
I'm my own grandpa
It sounds funny I know
But it really is so
I'm my own grandpa.

My little baby then became a brother-in-law to dad,
And so became my uncle though it made me very sad.
For, if he was my uncle, then that also made him brother
Of the wider's grown-up daughter who, of course, was my step-mother.

My father's wife then had a son who kept them on the run,
And he became my grandchild for he was my daughter's son.
My wife is now my mother's mother and it makes me blue
Because, although she is my wife, she's my grandmother too.

I'm my own grandpa,
I'm my own grandpa
It sounds funny I know
But it really is so
I'm my own grandpa.

Oh, if my wife is my grandmother, then I'm her grandchild.
And every time I think of it, it nearly drives me wild
For now I have become the strangest case you ever saw
As husband of my own grandmother, I'm my own grandpa.

I'm my own grandpa,
I'm my own grandpa
It sounds funny I know
But it really is so
I'm my own grandpa.

It Ain't Gonna Rain No More

It ain't gonna rain no more

And by the sewer he died

My mother is a cook
And I'm the little hot-dog
With the candy that I took

My father built a chimney
He built it up so high
He had to take it down each night
To let the moon go by.

My daddy is a doctor,
My mommy is a nurse,
And I'm the little needle
That gets you where it hurts.
- Chorus

Mary had a little lamb
She kept it in a closet
And every time she took it out
It left a small deposit
- Chorus

Mary had a little lamb,
Her father shot it dead
Oh, she still takes it off to school
But on a slice of bread.
- Chorus

Mary had a steamboat
The steamboat had a bell.
Mary went to heaven.
The steamboat went to TOOT-TOOT!
- Chorus

My uncle was a chemist.
A chemist he is no more.
For what he thought was H-2-O
Was H-2-S-O-4
- Chorus

Peter was a rabbit
A rabbit he is no more
For what he thought was a rabbit hole
Was a hole in the outhouse floor
- Chorus

I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you anyhow
I'd rather see than be one.
- Chorus

I never saw a chocolate cow
I never hope to see one
But judging by the milk we get
There certainly must be one
- Chorus

It's a Lie

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:I was born a hundred thousand years ago. (YEARS AGO)

Chorus:
It's a lie; It's a lie ; Ship ahoy, ship ahey, ship a hi-hi-hi!
Oh, I've sailed the seven seas and I've sniffed the salty breeze,
But I never, ever, ever saw a mermaid. (A MERMAID)

I was there when Satan looked the garden o'er. (GARDEN O'ER)
I saw Adam and Eve a'driven from the door. (FROM THE DOOR)
I was round the corner peekin' at the apple they was eatin'
I can prove I was the guy that ate the core. (ATE THE CORE)
- Chorus

I was there when Ceasar crossed the Rubicon. (RUBICON)

- Chorus

I saw Washington afloat a cake of ice. (CAKE OF ICE)
I saw Sherman, Lee, and Grant a shakin' dice. (SHAKIN' DICE)

While Pershing set a trap for German mice. (GERMAN MICE)
- Chorus

You may thing that all this bunk, it isn't true. (IT ISN'T TRUE)
But what difference does it really make to you? (MAKE TO YOU)
I've been feeding you this line just to pass away the time,
And now I'm going to quit because I'm through. (YOU'RE THROUGH)
- Chorus

I was born about a hundred years ago (YEARS AGO)
And there's no badge in this world I do not own (DO NOT OWN)

And I'll kick the guy who says it isn't so (ISN'T SO)

Chorus:
It's a lie, It's a lie!
Scout ahoy, scout a-hey, scout a-hi!
I've been a Boy Scout all my life, with my flashlight and my knife,
And I've lived it and I've loved it all the while!

I was present at the Siege of Mafeking! (MAFEKING!)
I heard the town's warning bell a-ring! (BELL A-RING!)
Baden-Powell held his ground, and kept the Boers out
And thus Britain had a reason to sing! (TO SING!)

Chorus

I was there as Mr. Boyce went through the mist (THROUGH THE MIST!)
Before I left he grabbed me by the wrist (BY THE WRIST!)
He offered then to pay me, but then I did decree:

Chorus

A scout should always ever tell the truth (TELL THE TRUTH!)
Or his fellow scouts may think he is uncouthe (UNCOUTHE?)

Just a song to entertain the youth. (THE YOUTH!)

King's Knight Out

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:Tune:
Lyrics:King Arthur had a date
He stayed out very late
The Queen was mad.
The Queen, she paced the floor
The King came in at four
She met him at the door
God save the King.

He'd been out with the knights
They had been in a fight,
With enemies.
He fell into the moat
Pushed by a passing goat
He could just barely float
God save the King.

His friends would not come near
Loaded with battle gear
They could not swim.
Helmets and armor, new,
Cross-bows and arrows, too.
Even a metal shoe,
God save the King.

Just then a knight went by
His clothes were nice and dry
He jumped right in.
Swam to the sinking King
Pulled him out of the stream
You should have heard him scream,
God save the King!

The BRIGHT SUN COMES UP! (Yell it out and jump high with arms above head)
The dew goes away (hands like banging on a keyboard)

Way up in the sky
The big birdies die
While down in the nest
So do the rest.
Shhh! THEY'RE DYING!
The bright sun comes up.
The blood dries away.

Stopped to say good day
A cow dropped her dinner
And I'm standing iner

And the stuff is stickin' like cement.

So I kicked off my shoes and away I went.

And in the city it's the druggies in the hoods.

You better walk a little faster
Or your shoes are going to pick up all the goods.

Muff, the Tragic Wagon

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune: (Puff, the Magic Dragon)
Lyrics:Muff the Tragic Wagon lived by the street
And rolled along the boulevard,
through rain and snow and sleet.
Little Tommy Pumpkin loved that wagon, Muff,
And rolled him home and filled him up
With toys and other stuff.

Together they would travel along the avenue
Tommy hanging out his leg would scuff his Sunday shoe.
Taxi cabs and buses would honk as they went past,
Tragic wagons never seem to need to stop for gas.
Chorus

Children live forever, but not so children's toys,
Wagons can't forever be a friend to little boys.
And one gray day it happened while Tommy took his nap,
A garbage truck ran over Muff and turned him into scrap.
Chorus

Little Tommy Pumpkin said just off the cuff,
There will never be another tragic wagon, Muff.

My Bonnie

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune:
Lyrics:My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.
Chorus:
Bring back, bring back,
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me.
Bring back, bring back,
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.

Other Bonnie verses:
My Bonnie has tuberculosis.
My Bonnie has only one lung.
My Bonnie can cough up raw oysters,
and roll them around on her tongue.

My Bonnie has tuberculosis.
My Bonnie has only one lung.
My Bonnie spits blood in her pocket
And dries it and chews it for gum.

My Bonnie leaned over the gas tank,
The height of its contents to see;
I lighted a match to assist her,
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.

Last night as I lay on my pillow,
Last night as I lay on my bed,
I stuck my feet out of the window,
This morning my neighbors were dead.
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my neighbors to me, to me.
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my neighbors to me.

My mother’s an apple pie maker.
My father he fiddles for tin.
My sister scrubs floors for a living.
Oh boy, how the money rolls in.
Rolls in, rolls in,
Oh boy, how the money rolls in, rolls in.
Rolls in, rolls in,
Oh boy, how the money rolls in.

My breakfast lies over the ocean.
My dinner lies over the sea.
My stomach is in a commotion,
Don't mention my supper to me.

Chorus
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my bucket to me, to me.
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my bucket to me.

I really felt rotten this morning,
They tell me I really looked pale,
My stomach gave adequate warning,
To lean far out over the rail.
Chorus

The sound of a stomach in motion,
A murmuring noise inside me,
I looked down and there on the water,
Was breakfast and dinner and tea.
Chorus

Breakfast Song
Your breakfast is calling this morning,
Your bacon is crisp in the pan,
Your pancakes are doing a flip, flop,
I’m cooking as fast as I can.
Get up! Get up!
Oh, roll yourself out of the bed, the bed.
Get up! Get up!
Oh, don’t be an old sleepy head.

My Turkey

My turkey went walking one morning
The November weather to see.
A man with a hatchet approached her
Oh, bring back my turkey to me.

Chorus
Gobble, Gobble,
Oh bring back my turkey to me, to me.
Gobble, Gobble,
Oh bring back my turkey to me!

I went down the sidewalk a shoppin’
The sights in show windows to see.
And everywhere hung great fat gobblers.
Oh, bring back my turkey to me.

Chorus

I went out to dinner and ordered
The best things they had I could see.
They brought it all roasted and sizzling;
They brought back my turkey to me.

Chorus

My turkey has two juicy drumsticks
My turkey has two crispy wings
My turkey has ten pounds of stuffing
But only one wishbone, poor thing!

Chorus

My turkey looked great on the platter
My turkey looked great on my dish
But after that last turkey sandwich
Hold onto that wishbone and wish!

Chorus

My Country Tis of Thee

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune:
Lyrics:My country,' tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;
land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims' pride,
from every mountainside let freedom ring!

My native country, thee,
land of the noble free, thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
thy woods and templed hills;
my heart with rapture thrills, like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
and ring from all the trees sweet freedom's song;
let mortal tongues awake;
let all that breathe partake;
let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

Our fathers' God, to thee,
author of liberty, to thee we sing;
long may our land be bright
with freedom's holy light;
protect us by thy might, great God, our King.

My Dead Dog Rover

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune: (Four Leaf Clover)
Lyrics:I'm looking over my dead dog Rover,
That I over-ran with the mower.
One leg is missing the other is gone.
The third one is scattered all over the lawn.
No need explaining the one remaining
It's splattered on the kitchen door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover,
that I over-ran with the mower.

I’m looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.
One leg is broken, the other is lame,
The third leg is missing, the fourth needs a cane.
No need explaining, the tail remaining
Was caught in the oven door.
I’m looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.

My Leader

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:Tune: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean
Lyrics:My leader fell into a pothole
In a glacier while climbing an Alp.
He's still there after 50 long winters,
And all you can see is his scalp.

Chorus:
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my leader to me, to me.
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my leader to me!

My leader was proud of his whiskers,
To shave them would give him the blues.
They hung all the way to his ankles,
And he used them for shining his shoes.
(Chorus)

My leader had faith in a sailboat
He'd built from an old hollow tree.
My leader set sail for Australia,
Now my leader lies under the sea.
(Chorus)

My leader made friends with hyenas,
He gave them a ride on his raft.
When a crocodile reached up and grabbed him,
The hyenas just sat there and laughed.
(Chorus)

My leader annoyed his dear parents
They tossed him right out of the bus.
And if we don't mend our behavior,
Why that's what will happen to us.
(Chorus)

My brother has just joined the Boy Scouts
He welcomed the challenge with glee.
But he's awful hard work for his leader
And his leader just happens to be me.
(Chorus)

I've told him the Law and the Promise
I've shown him the handshake and sign
I've told him we try to get badges
But I didn't mean he should take mine!
(Chorus)

Raingutter Regatta

We're having a Cub Scout regatta.
We've sanded and painted our boats.
I put on so much decoration,
I sure hope my little boat floats.

Chorus:
Sail on, sail on,
Sail on little sailboat, sail on, sail on.
Sail on, sail on,
Sail on little boat 'til you've won.

My boat sails along the raingutter.
I blow it with all of my might.
But I can't steer the sail for the rudder,
So it bounces first left and then right.

Chorus

It got to the end of the gutter,
But somebody pulled out the plug.
The water is rapidly draining.
My little boat goes down - glug, glug!

Lyrics:I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee.

I'm goin' to Lousiana, my true love for to see.

I had a dream the other night, when everything was still.

The buckwheat cake was in her mouth, the tear was in her eye.
Says I, I'm comin' from the South, Susanna don't you cry.

Chorus

I soon will be in New Orleans, and then I'll look all 'round.

Old Chisholm Trail

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Come along boys and listen to my tale;
I'll tell you of my troubles on the old Chisholm trail.

Chorus:
Come-a ti yi yippy, yippy, yay, yippy yay!
Come-a ti yi yippy, yippy, yay!

On a ten dollar horse and a forty dollar saddle;
Ridin' and a punchin' them Texas cattle
Chorus

We left old Texas October twenty-third
Drivin' up the trail with a U-2 herd
Chorus

I jumped in the saddle an' I grabbed a-hold the horn,
The best darned cowpuncher ever was born.
Chorus

I was on my best horse, and a going on the run,
The quickest shootin' cowboy that ever pulled a gun.

I'm up in the morning before daylight;
Before I get to sleep the moon's shining bright.

It's bacon and beans most every day,
I'd sooner be a-eatin' the prairie hay.

Feet in the stirrups and seat in the saddle,
I hung and rattled with them long-horn cattle.

Well the days are hot and the nights are cold
This cowboy life is gettin' mighty old

There's mud in the gully and dust in the draw
The bossman's meaner than my mother-in-law

Spent two days lookin' for muley-headed calf
Ain't been to sleep in a week and a half

Well the water's gettin' scarce and we're runnin' out of light
Looks like we're gonna have to drive 'em all night

It's cloudy in the west, a-lookin' like rain,
And my durned old slicker's in the wagon again.

The wind commenced to blow, and the rain began to fall,
And it looked, by grab, like we was goin' to lose 'em all.

No chaps, no slicker, and it's pourin' down rain,
And I swear, by gosh, I'll never night-herd again.

Got a hole in my hat where the rain runs in
Got a hole in my boot where it runs out again

We rounded 'em up and put 'em on the cars,
And that was the last of the old Two Bars.

I'm going to the ranch to draw my money,
Goin' into town to see my honey.

I went to the boss to draw my roll,
He figured me out nine dollars in the hole.

I'll sell my outfit as soon as I can,
'Cause I ain't punchin' cattle for no mean boss man.

So I sold old baldy and I hung up my saddle,
And I bid farewell to the longhorn cattle.

Peanut Butter

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Well, there's a food going 'round and it's a sticky, sticky goo
- Peanut, peanut butter
It tastes to good, but it's so hard to chew
- Peanut, peanut butter
People everywhere, they think it's the most
- Peanut, peanut butter
Early in the morning they put it on their toast
- Peanut, peanut butter

Chorus: I like peanut butter, creamy peanut butter, chunky peanut butter, too!

My old dog started barking in the middle of the night
- Peanut, peanut butter
He woke up all my neighbors, I almost got in a fight
- Peanut, peanut butter
So I gave him peanut butter just to quiet him down
- Peanut, peanut butter
He chewed himself to sleep and he never made a sound
- Peanut, peanut butter
Chorus

I went to a dinner party and what did they eat?
- Peanut, peanut butter
I took a big bite and it stuck to my teeth
- Peanut, peanut butter
People going 'round look like they got the mumps
- Peanut, peanut butter
They were eating peanut butter in great, big hunks
- Peanut, peanut butter
Chorus

Pinewood Derby

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:Tune: Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Lyrics:Take me out to the pinewood, take me out to the crowd.
Buy me some graphite and a sanding block, I don't care if I ever get back.

We will root root root for my racer,
If I don't win you can say
That I cut, sanded and designed it myself
In the Cub Scout Way!

B'gosh their starting the race now, I see my friend's in the heat.
He's standing there biting his fingernails, but I am sure that he'll never be beat!

For, we'll root root root for my den-mate,
If he doesn't win we can say
That he cut, sanded, and designed it himself
In the Cub Scout Way!

The Scouts have declared a winner,
And I am proud to say,
My racer, it got to the end of the track,
And my den leader let me bring it back

For a second heat in consolation,
Was my decision today.
But I cut, sanded, and designed it myself
In the Cub Scout Way!

Pink Pajamas

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic
Lyrics:I wear my pink pajamas, in the summer when it's hot.
I wear my flannel nighties in the winter when it's not.
And sometimes in the springtime and sometimes in the fall,
I jump right in between the sheets with nothing on at all.

Chorus:
Glory, glory, Hallelujah;
Glory, glory, What's it to ya?
Balmy breezes blowing through ya,
With nothing on at all.

I wake up in the morning with the sheet around my head,
And my little footsie-wootsies are a stickin' out of bed,
And then I even notice that I'm lying on the floor,
I swear I won't be drinking Coca-Cola any more.

Red River Valley

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:From this valley they say you are going,
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile,
For they say you are taking the sunshine
Which has brightened our pathways a while.

Chorus:
Come and sit by my side if you love me;
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the Red River Valley,
And the girl that has loved you so true.

I've been thinking a long time, my darling,
Of the sweet words you never would say,
Now, alas, must my fond hopes all vanish?
For they say you are going away.
- Chorus

Won't you think of the valley you're leaving,
Oh, how lonely and sad it will be,
Just think of the fond heart you're breaking,
And the grief you are causing to me.
- Chorus

From this valley they say you are going,
When you go, may your darling go too?
Would you leave her behind unprotected,
When she loves no one other than you.
- Chorus

As you go to your home by the ocean,
May you never forget those sweet hours,
That we spent in the Red River Valley,
And the love we exchanged 'mid the flowers.
- Chorus

I have promised you, darling, that never
Will a word from my lips cause you pain,
And my life, it will be yours forever,
If you only will love me again.
- Chorus

They will bury me where you have wandered,
Near the hills where the daffodils grow,
When you're gone from the Red River valley,
For I can't live without you I know.
- Chorus

Three blind mice are dead
See how they lie

Cold grey bodies on the slab
Cold grey bodies on the slab
Poor dead mice
Poor dead mice

Three small rodents with optical deficiencies,
Three small rodents with optical deficiencies,
Observe how they perambulate,
Observe how they perambulate!
They all hastened after the agriculturist's spouse.
She severed their posterior appendages with a chef's chopping implement.
Have ever you audited such an account in your existence
As three small rodents with optical deficiencies?

Three small mice, three small mice,
They pined for some fun, they pined for some fun.
They made up their minds to set out to roam,
Said they, 'Too dull to remain at home'
And all the luggage they took was a comb,
Three small mice, three small mice.

Three bold mice, three bold mice,
They came to an inn, they came to an inn.
Good evening good host can you give us a bed ?
The host he grinned and shook his head
So they all slept out in a field instead,
Three bold mice, three bold mice.

Three cold mice, three cold mice,
They woke up next morn, they woke up next morn.
They each had a cold and a swollen face
From sleeping all night in an open space;
They rose quite early and left the place.
Three cold mice, three cold mice.

Three hungry mice, three hungry mice,
They searched for some food, they searched for some food.
But all they found was a walnut shell
That lay by the side of a dried-up well;
Who had eaten the nut they could not tell,
Three hungry mice, three hungry mice.

Three starved mice, three starved mice,
They came to a farm, they came to a farm.
The farmer was eating some bread and cheese,
So they all went down on their hands and knees,
Said 'Oh give us a morsel please'.
Three starved mice, three starved mice.

Three glad mice, three glad mice,
They ate all they could, they ate all they could.
They felt so happy they danced with glee
But the farmer's wife came out to see
What might their merrymaking be.
Three glad mice, three glad mice.

Three poor mice, three poor mice,
They soon changed their tune, they soon changed their tune.
The farmer's wife said what are you at,
And why are you dancing around like that ?
Just wait a minute I'll fetch the cat.
Three poor mice, three poor mice.

Three scared mice, three scared mice,
They ran for their lives, they ran for their lives.
They jumped out on the window ledge,
The mention of cats put their teeth on edge
So they hid themselves in a bramble hedge.
Three scared mice, three scared mice.

Three sad mice, three sad mice,
What could they do, what could they do ?
The bramble hedge was most unkind,
It scratched their eyes and made them blind
And soon each mouse went out of his mind.
Three sad mice, three sad mice.

Three blind mice, three blind mice,
See how they run, see how they run.
They all ran after the farmer's wife
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did you ever see such a sight in your life
As three blind mice, three blind mice.

Three sick mice, three sick mice.
They gave way to tears, they gave way to tears.
They could not see and they had no end
So they went to the doctor and found a friend
Who gave them some Never-Too-Late-To-Mend.
Three sick mice, three sick mice.

Three wise mice, three wise mice,
Rubbed rubbed away, rubbed rubbed away.
And soon their tails began to grow
And their eyes recovered their sight, you know.
They looked in the mirror, it told them so.
Three wise ice, three wise mice.

Three proud mice, three proud mice,
They soon settled down, they soon settled down.
The name of their house I cannot tell,
But they've learned a trade and they're doing well.
If you pay them a visit, just ring the bell,
Three times twice, three times twice.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merilly,
Life is but a dream.

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
Throw the Leaders overboard
And listen to them scream.

Row, row, row your boat
Underneath the stream.
Ha, ha! Fooled you.
We're in a submarine.

Row, row, row your boat
Careful as can be.
Watch out for that tidal wave,
We're on the open sea.

Row, row, row your boat.
Try to catch a fish.
Snag 'im, reel 'im, clean 'im, fry 'im,
Place 'im on a dish.

Row, row, row your boat.
Quickly cross the creek.
The boat is filling up real fast,
I think it sprung a leak.

Row, row, row your boat.
With your dog named Rover.
Shut up! Sit Down!
Or, you'll tip us over.

Propel, propel, propel your craft
Placidly along the liquid solution.
Ecstatically, ecstatically, ecstatically, ecstatically
Existence is but a delusion.

(make up more with your group and tell me so I can add them here.)

Down, down, down below the ground (point down on down)
Where all the little poopies are swimming around (swimming motion)
There sits Sam, the lavatory man,
Scooping up the poopies,
Scooping up the poopies,
Scooping up the poopies in his little tin can!

Smokey the Bear

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:With a Ranger's hat and shovel
and a pair of dungarees,
you will find him in the forest
always sniffin' at the breeze.
People stop and pay attention
when he tells 'em to beware,
'cause ev'rybody knows that
he's the Fire Prevention Bear.

Chorus:
Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear.
Prowlin' and a growlin' and a sniffin' the air.
He can find a fire before it starts to flame.
That's why they call him Smokey,
That was how he got his name.

You can take a tip from Smokey
that there's nothin' like a tree.
'cause they're good for kids to climb in
and they're beautiful to see,
you just have to look around you
and you'll find it's not a joke,
to see what you'd be missin'
if they all went up in smoke.
Chorus

You can camp upon his doorstep
and he'll make you feel at home;
You can run and hunt and ramble
anywhere you care to roam.
He will let you take his honey
and pretend he's not so smart,
but don't you harm his trees
for he's a Ranger in his heart.
Chorus

If you've ever seen the forest
when a fire is running wild,
and you love the things within it
like a mother loves her child,
then you know why Smokey tells you
when he sees you passing through,
'Remember...please be careful....
its the least that you can do.'
Chorus

Spider On the Floor

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune: If You're Happy
Lyrics:There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
Who could ask for anything more, than a spider on the floor.
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.

Now the spider's on my leg, on my leg.
Now the spider's on my leg, on my leg.
Oh, I wish I had some Raid for this spider on my leg!
Now the spider's on my leg, on my leg.

Now the spider's on my chest, on my chest!
Now the spider's on my chest, on my chest!
Oh, I'd squish him in my vest, if it didn't make a mess!
Now the spider's on my chest, on my chest!

Now the spider's on my neck, on my neck!
Now the spider's on my neck on my neck!
Oh, I'm gonna be a wreck, I've got a spider on my neck!
Now the spider's on my neck on my neck!

Now the spider's on my face, on my face!

Oh, what a big disgrace, I've got a spider on my face!
Now the spider's on my face, on my face

Now the spider's on my head, on my head!

Star Spangled Banner

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Taps

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Day is done, Gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky;
All is well, Safely rest,
God is nigh.

Fading light, Dims the sight;
And a star, Gems the sky,
Gleaming bright;
From afar, Drawing nigh,
Falls the night.

Fades the light, Falls the night,
O'er the vale, O'er the hill,
O'er the sky;
From afar, Shines a star;
Falls the night.

Dear one, rest! In the West,
Sable night, Lulls the day;
On her breats.
Sweet, goodnight! Ah, so soon!
Peaceful dreams.

Soldier rest, Gently pressed,
To the calm, Mother Earth's
Waiting breast;
Duty done, Like the sun:
Going West.

Thanks and praise, for our day,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars,
'Neath the sky.
As we go, this we know,
God is nigh.

Starry bright, Be you flight,
To the goal, Of the soul,
Shining white;
God is near, Have no fear,
In His light.

Sleep and dream, Every beam,
God keep watch o'er all
Thru the night
We shall meet with the morn',
So good night.

Was swingin' from tree to tree
Got stung by a bumblebee
Now Monkey is so funky

ROGER!
Was pitchin' for the Dodgers
Hit someone larger
Now Roger's not a Dodger

KING TUT!
Doin' the Egyptian strut
Fell into a rut
Now Tut's on his butt

CHARLIE!
Was ridin' on his Harley
Crashed into Bob Marley
Now Charlie's not so gnarly

RHONDA!
Was drivin' in her Honda
Drove into a pond-a
Now Rhonda has no Honda

The Fox

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Oh the fox went out on a chilly night,
Prayed for the moon to give him light,
He'd many a mile to go that night,
Before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o
He'd many a mile to go that night,
Before he reached the town-o.

He ran until he came to a great big bin,
The ducks and geese were put therein,
Said a couple of you are gonna grease my chin,
Before I leave this town-o, town-o, town-o,
Said a couple of you are gonna grease my chin,
Before I leave this town-o.

He grabbed the grey goose by the neck,
Slung the little one over his back,
He didn't mind their quack quack quack,
And the legs all dangling down-o, down-o, down-o,
No he didn't mind their quack quack quack,
And the legs all dangling down-o.

Old mother pitter patter jumped out of bed,
Out of the window she cocked her head,
Crying, 'JOhn, John the grey goose is gone,
And the fox is in the town-o, town-o, town-o,'
Crying, 'John, John the grey goose is gone,
And the fox is in the town-o.'

John he went to the top of the hill,
Blew his horn both loud and shrill,
The fox he said 'I better flee with my kill,
For he'll soon be on my trail-o, trail-o, trail-o,'
The fox he said 'I better flee with my kill,
For he'll soon be on my trail-o.'

He ran 'til he came to his cozy den,
There were little ones eight, nine, ten,
They said, 'Daddy, Daddy, you better go back again,
For it must be a mighty fine town-o, town-o, town-o.'
They said, 'Daddy, Daddy, you better go back again,
For it must be a mighty fine town-o.'

Then the fox and his wife without any strife,
Cut up the grey goose with a fork and knife,
They never had such a supper in their life,
And the little ones chewed on the bones-o, bones-o, bones-o,
They never had such a supper in their life,
And the little ones chewed on the bones-o.

The Thing

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:While I was walking down the beach one bright and sunny day,
I saw a great big wooden box a floating in the bay.
I pulled it in and opened it up and much to my surprise:
Oh, I discovered a (clap - clap - clap) right before my eyes.
Oh, I discovered a (clap - clap - clap) right before my eyes.

I picked it up and ran to town as happy as a king.
I took it to a guy I knew who'd buy most anything.
But this is what he hollered at me as I walked in his shop:
Oh, get out of here with that (clap - clap - clap) before I call a cop.
Oh, get out of here with that (clap - clap - clap) before I call a cop.

I turned around and got right out a running for my life.
And then I took it home with me to give it to my wife.
But this is what she hollered at me as I walked in the door:
Oh, get out of here with that (clap - clap - clap) and don't come back no more.
Oh, get out of here with that (clap - clap - clap) and don't come back no more.

I wandered all around the town until I chanced to meet,
A hobo who was looking for a handout on the street,
He said he'd take most anything - he was a desperate man.
But, when I showed him the (clap - clap - clap) he turned around and ran.
Oh, when I showed him the (clap - clap - clap) he turned around and ran.

I wandered on for many years a victim of my fate.
Until, one day, I came upon St. Peter at the gate.
And when I tried to take it inside, he told me where to go:
Get out of here with that (clap - clap - clap) and take it down below.
Oh, get out of here with that (clap - clap - clap) and take it down below.

The moral of this story is if you're out on the beach,
And you should see a great big box, and it's within your reach,
Don't ever stop and open it up, that's my advice to you
'Cause you'll never get rid of that (clap - clap - clap) no matter what you do.
'Cause you'll never get rid of that (clap - clap - clap) no matter what you do.

There Was an Old Lady

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Lyrics:There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
I guess she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider.
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
I guess she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird.
How absurd! To swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
I guess she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that! She swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird.
How absurd! To swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
I guess she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a Dog.
What a hog! She swallowed a dog.

There was an old lady who swallowed a Goat.
She opened her throat And in walked a goat.

There was an old lady who swallowed a Cow.
I don't know how She swallowed that cow.

There was an old lady, she swallowed a horse.
She's DEAD of course!

Tie Me Kangaroo Down

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
This is much more fun in hammed up Australian accents.
The story is of an old Australian stockman that is dieing and gives instructions to his mates.
Lyrics:I'm not gonna pull through, Blue;
I'm not gonna pull through.
I'm not gonna pull through, Blue,
So this you gotta do ...

Chorus:
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down.

Watch me wallabies feed, Reed,
Watch me wallabies feed.
They're a dangerous breed, Reed
So, watch me wallabies feed.

Let me wombats go loose, Bruce,
Let me wombats go loose.
They're of no further use, Bruce.
So let me wombats go lose.

Keep me cockatoo cool, Lou,
Keep me cockatoo cool.
Don't go actin' the fool, Lou,
Just keep me cockatoo cool.

Take me koala back, Jack
Take me koala back.
He lives somewhere out on the track, Jack
So, take me koala back.

Mind me platypus duck, Bill
Mind me platypus duck.
Don't let him go running amuck, Bill
Just, mind me platypus duck.

Play your digeridoo, Blue
Play your digeridoo.
Keep playing 'til I shoot through, Blue
Play your digeridoo.

Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred
Tan me hide when I'm dead.
So, we tanned his hide, when he died, Clyde
And that's it hangin' on the shed.

Tiger Cub Chant

Intended for:Tiger Scouts
Required:The more the scout leader looks like a drill instructor (Smokey bear hat, whistle etc.) the better.
Preparation:All Tiger Scouts form a line facing the audience. The Drill Instructor stands at one end and everyone marches in place as the Leader barks out the chant and his troops repeat after him.
Notes:I wrote this to help the Tiger Cubs remember the Scout Promise.
This can be used as an inside activity or while marching on a hike. You can create a big finish at the end if the scouts yell "one, two" and "three, four" then all stop marching.
Lyrics:Hup, two, three, four
Hup two three four,
We are Tiger Cubs who care,
Gonna Search, Discover, Share.
We are Tiger Cubs who say,
Let Akela show the way.
I promise to do my best,
Duty, God and country's test.
Helping other people so,
Thats what makes a Cub Scout grow.
We obey laws of the pack.
To our community we give back.
Sound off
    one two
Sound off
    three four
Hup two three four
hup two....three four.

A Favorite Song

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune: Oh, Christmas Tree
Lyrics:Oh Tom the Toad, Oh Tom the Toad
Why are you lying in the road?
Oh Tom the Toad, Oh Tom the Toad
Why are you lying in the road?
You did not see that car ahead
And you were flattened by the tread.
Oh Tom the Toad, Oh Tom the Toad
Why are you lying in the road?

Oh, Kitty Cat, Oh, Kitty Cat
Why does your tongue hang out like that?
Oh, Kitty Cat, Oh, Kitty Cat
Why does your tongue hang out like that?
You running from the mutts,
Then that truck spread out your guts.
Oh, Kitty Cat, Oh, Kitty Cat
Why does your tongue hang out like that?

Oh Fred the fish, Oh Fred the fish,
Why are you lying on the dish?
Oh Fred the fish, Oh Fred the fish,
Why are you lying on the dish?
You did not see the hook ahead,
And now your head is stuffed with bread.
Oh Fred the fish, Oh Fred the fish,
Why are you lying on the dish?

Oh Bill the bug, oh Bill the bug,
What are you doing on the rug.
Oh Bill the bug, oh Bill the bug,
What are you doing on the rug.
You did not see the foot ahead,
and now your just a spot of red,
Oh Bill the bug, oh Bill the bug,
What are you doing on the rug.

Oh Rog the dog, Oh Rog the dog,
Why did you jump on that green log?
Oh Rog the dog, Oh Rog the dog,
Why did you jump on that green log?
You used to like to play and track.
But now you are a ëgatorís snack.
Oh Rog the dog, Oh Rog the dog,
Why did you jump on that green log?

Oh AL the Gater, Oh Al the gater
You should have waited until later.
Oh Al the Gater, Oh Al the Gater
You should have waited until later.
You sat upon the yellow line,
and now you're just a streak of slime
Oh AL the Gater, Oh Al the gater
You should have waited until later.

Oh Sue the Skunk, Oh Sue the Skunk
Why do you make my tires go thunk?
Oh Sue the Skunk, Oh Sue the Skunk
Why do you make my tires go thunk?
You did not look from East to West
Now on the road there's such a mess.
Oh Sue the Skunk, Oh Sue the Skunk
Why do you make my tires go thunk?

Oh Turtle Ted, Oh turtle Ted,
Your shell's all broken - so's your head.
Oh Turtle Ted, Oh turtle Ted,
Your shell's all broken - so's your head.
In the road you thought you'd travel,
Now you're ground into the gravel.
Oh Turtle Ted, Oh turtle Ted,
Your shell's all broken - so's your head.

Oh Billy Bat, Oh Billy Bat,
Why are you lying still like that?
Oh Billy Bat, Oh Billy Bat,
Why are you lying still like that?
Along the road you swooped and flapped,
But a trucker's windshield got you zapped!
Oh Billy Bat, Oh Billy Bat,
Why are you lying still like that?

Oh Jake the snake, Oh Jake the snake,
Why are you lying on the lake?
Oh Jake the snake, Oh Jake the snake,
Why are you lying on the lake?
You did not see the motor boat,
And now your guts are all afloat
Oh Jake the snake, Oh Jake the snake,
Why are you lying on the lake?

Joel the mole, Oh, Joel the Mole
Why did you fall into that hole?
Joel the Mole, Oh, Joel the Mole
Why did you fall into that hole?
You used to be so short and fat
And now you are a great big SPLAT.
Joel the mole, Oh Joel the Mole
Why did you fall into that hole?

Oh, Tom the Cat, Oh, Tom the Cat,
Why did you have to chase that Rat?
Oh, Tom the Cat, Oh, Tom the Cat,
Why did you have to chase that Rat?
You were so soft, you loved to purr,
But now you're just blood, bones and fur,
Oh, Tom the Cat, Oh, Tom the Cat,
Why did you have to chase that Rat?

Armadillo Bob, Armadillo Bob,
Why did you leave your nice safe log?
Armadillo Bob, Armadillo Bob,
Why did you leave your nice safe log?
Your armor made you brave I think,
Now lying on the road you stink.
Armadillo Bob, Armadillo Bob,
Why did you leave your nice safe log?

Oh Sam the Snake, Oh Sam the Snake
Why do you lie out there and bake?
Oh Sam the Snake, Oh Sam the Snake
Why do you lie out there and bake?
You did not see that truck go by
Now you look like a butterfly.
Oh Sam the Snake, Oh Sam the Snake
Why do you lie out there and bake?

Oh Possum Pete, Oh Possum Pete
There's nothing left but hair and feet
Oh Possum Pete, Oh Possum Pete
There's nothing left but hair and feet
You thought you'd beat that bus across
Now you look like a pile of moss.
Oh Possum Pete, Oh Possum Pete
There's nothing left but hair and feet

Arm'dillo Tex, Arm'dillo Tex,
Why are you looking so perplexed?
Arm'dillo Tex, Arm'dillo Tex,
Why are you looking so perplexed?
Across the yellow line you strayed,
The truck hit you - like a grenade!
Arm'dillo Tex, Arm'dillo Tex,
Why are you looking so perplexed?

Oh Froggie Fred, Oh Froggie Fred,
Why do you lie there stone-cold dead?
Oh Froggie Fred, Oh Froggie Fred,
Why do you lie there stone-cold dead?
You didn't look as you jumped out,
A ten-ton truck ran up your snout!
Oh Froggie Fred, Oh Froggie Fred,
Why do you lie there stone-cold dead?

Oh Swallow Sam, Oh Swallow Sam,
What turned your body into jam?
Oh Swallow Sam, Oh Swallow Sam,
What turned your body into jam?
In the air you'd quickly speed,
An eighteen-wheeler made you bleed.
Oh Swallow Sam, Oh Swallow Sam,
What turned your body into jam?

Oh Doggie Spot, Oh Doggie Spot,
Upon the road you're such a blot.
Oh Doggie Spot, Oh Doggie Spot,
Upon the road you're such a blot.
Out in the lane you boldly went,
Now your bod's not worth a cent!
Oh Doggie Spot, Oh Doggie Spot,
Upon the road you're such a blot.

Oh Bunny Ben, Oh Bunny Ben,
Why is your body flat and thin?
Oh Bunny Ben, Oh Bunny Ben,
Why is your body flat and thin?
Out on the road you quickly jumped,
You didn't count on getting bumped.
Oh Bunny Ben, Oh Bunny Ben,
Why is your body flat and thin?

Oh, Chicken Cluck you never slowed
As you went running cross the road.
Oh, Chicken Cluck you never slowed
As you went running cross the road.
Despite the other's evidence,
Please tell us why you had no sense
Oh, Chicken Cluck you never slowed
As you went running cross the road.

I ran across! I ran across!
In memory of those we lost!
I ran across! I ran across!
In memory of those we lost!
I had to prove to Tom & Sue,
& Sam & Pete, I could get through!
I ran across! I ran across!
In memory of those we lost!

Unicorn

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Notes:An old Irish Rovers song.
Lyrics:A long time ago when the earth was green,
There was more kinds of animals than you'd ever seen.
They'd run around free while the earth was being born
But the loveliest of them all was the unicorn.

There was green alligators
And long necked geese
Some humpy back camels
And some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
but sure as you're born, the loveliest of all was the unicorn.

Now God seen some sinnin'
And it gave Him pain.
He said, "Stand back!
I'm gonna make it rain."
He said, "Hey, Brother Noah,
I'll tell you what to do,
Build me a floating zoo.

And take some of them
Green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorns."

Old Noah was there to answer the call.
He finished up making the ark
Just as the rain started to fall.
He marched in the animals two by two
And called out as they went through,
"Hey, Lord, I've got your green alligators,
And long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
Some Cats and rats and elephants
But, Lord, I'm so forlorn, I just can't see no unicorns."

Then Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was pouring
Oh them silly unicorns.

There was green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
And Noah cried, "Close the door cause the rain is pouring in
And we just can't wait for no unicorns."

The ark started moving, it drifted with the tide.
Them unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried.
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away.
And that's why you'll never see a unicorn to this very day.

You'll see green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born, You're never gonna see no unicorns.

Wabash Cannonball

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune:
Lyrics:From the wide Pacific Ocean
To the broad Atlantic shore
From sunny California
To ice-bound Labrador
She's mighty tall and handsome
She's loved by one and all
She's the hobo's accomodation,
the Wabash Cannonball.

Oh, listen to the jingle,
The rumble and the roar,
As she glides along the woodlands,
Over hills and by the shore.
Hear the mighty rush of the engine,
Hear the lonesome hobos squall,
While rumbling through the jungle
On Wabash Cannonball.

Now the Eastern states are dandy
So the people alwasy say.
From New York to St. Louis
Chicago, by the way,
Through the hills of Minnesota
Where the rippling waters fall,
No chances to be taken
on the Wabash Cannonball.

Oh, listen to the jingle,
The rumble and the roar,
As she glides along the woodlands,
Over hills and by the shore
Hear the mighty rush of the engine,
Hear the lonesome hobos squall,
While rumbling through the jungle
On the Wabash Cannonball

Now here's to Daddy Claxton,
May his name forever stand
He'll always be remembered
In the courts throughout the land
His earthly race is over
And the curtain round him falls
Carryin' him home to victory
On the Wabash Cannonball.

Waltzing Matilda

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong,
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tuckerbag
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tuckerbag,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Up rode the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred,
Down came the troopers - one, two, three,
Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag?
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me,
Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag?
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Up jumped the swagman, and sprang into the billabong,
You'll never catch me alive said he,
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me,
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong,
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.

Wee-Wee

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Chorus:

Wee wee wee, wee wee wee, wee wee wee wee wee wee wee
Wee wee wee, wee wee wee, wee wee wee wee wee wee wee!

When I was just a wee-wee tot
They took me off my wee-wee cot
And put me on my wee-wee pot
To see if I could wee or not

When they found out I could not,
They took me from my wee-wee pot.
They put me on my wee-wee cot,
And there I wee-weed quite a lot.

They took me from my wee-wee cot
And smacked me on my wee-wee bot
This just shows that when it's hot
Children shouldn't drink a lot!

(sung slowly) When I'm old and turning grey
I'll only wee-wee once a day
But now I'm young and in my prime (speed up)
I WEE-WEE ALMOST ANY TIME!

When Johnny Comes Marching Home

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we'll all feel gay,
When Johnny comes marching home.

The old church bell will peal with joy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
To welcome home our darling boy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The village lads and lassies say
With roses they will strew the way,
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

Get ready for the Jubilee,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give the hero three times three,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The laurel wreath is ready now
To place upon his loyal brow
And we'll all feel gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:Tune: Where have all the flowers gone?
Lyrics:Where have all the Tigers gone, long time growing
Where have all the Tigers gone, in just a year
Where have all the Tigers gone,
Gone to Cub Scouts every one
They've got so much to learn,
They've got so much to learn.

Where have all the Cub Scouts gone, growing up so fast,
Where have all the Cub Scouts gone, it took three years.
Where have all the Cub Scouts gone,
Gone to Webelos every one.
There's still some more to learn,
There's still some more to learn.

Where have all the Webelos gone, no longer little boys,
Where have all the Webelos gone, fifth grade was last fall.
Where have all the Webelos gone
Gone to Boy Scouts every one.
It's a great adventure,
It's a great adventure.

Where have all the Boy Scouts gone, young men standing tall,
Where have all the Boy Scouts gone, eighteen draws near.
Where have all the Boy Scouts gone,
To fly with Eagles every one.

Where Oh Where Are You Tonight?

Intended for:All Scouts
Lyrics:Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I fixed the kids dinner and they are in bed now.
Since you found Scouting, you're never at home.

When I started Scouting, all they ever told me
Was "Go with the boys, and have lots of fun."
Now all that I do is go to Scout meetings.
It seems like I'm always the one on the run.

Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I fixed the kids dinner and they are in bed now.
Since you found Scouting, you're never at home.

One day I was told to try basic training.
I went 'cuz it sounded like lots of fun.
Now I am in charge of all of the training.
Oh, Heaven help me! Now what have I done!!??!!

Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
So sorry you missed your kid's graduation.
Maybe his wedding will bring you back home.

Woodbadge was something that I'd never heard of.
Worked for those beads 'till blue in my face.
One day I came home and she was spring cleaning:
She threw out those beads on that old shoelace!!

Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Your oldest daughter just had her first son.
Should I tell her now of all that's she's in for?
Her life in Scouting has only begun.

Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I fixed the kids dinner and they are in bed now.
Since you found Scouting, you're never at home.

Yankee Doodle

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:Yankee Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his hat
And called it macaroni.

Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.

Father and I went down to camp
Along with Captain Gooding
And there we saw the men and boys
As thick as hasty pudding.

Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.

There was Captain Washington
Upon a slapping stallion
A-giving orders to his men
I guess there was a million.

Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.

Yellow Rose of Texas

Intended for:All Scouts
Notes:The Tune:
Lyrics:There's a yellow rose in Texas,
that I am going to see,
Nobody else could miss her,
not half as much as me.
She cried so when I left her,
it like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her,
we nevermore will part.

She's the sweetest little rosebud
that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds,
they sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine,
and sing of Rosalee,
But the yellow rose of Texas
is the only girl for me.

When the Rio Grande is flowing,
the starry skies are bright,
She walks along the river
in the quiet summer night:
I know that she remembers,
when we parted long ago,
I promise to return again,
and not to leave her so.

She's the sweetest little rosebud
that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds,
they sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine,
and sing of Rosalee,
But the yellow rose of Texas
is the only girl for me.

Oh now I'm going to find her,
for my heart is full of woe,
And we'll sing the songs together,
that we sung so long ago
We'll play the bango gaily,
and we'll sing the songs of yore,
And the yellow rose of Texas
shall be mine forevermore.

She's the sweetest little rosebud
that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds,
they sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine,
and sing of Rosalee,
But the yellow rose of Texas
is the only girl for me.

You Gotta Sing

Intended for:Cub Scouts
Lyrics:You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
When your spirit says sing, you gotta sing right along
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing.

You gotta shout when your spirit says shout,
You gotta shout when your spirit says shout,
When your spirit says shout, you gotta shout right out loud,
You gotta shout when your spirit says shout.

You gotta wiggle when your spirit says wiggle,
You gotta wiggle when your spirit says wiggle,
When your spirit says wiggle, you gotta wiggle like a worm,
You gotta wiggle when your spirit says wiggle.

You gotta shake when your spirit says shake,
You gotta shake when your spirit says shake,
When your spirit says shake, you gotta shake like a snake,
You gotta shake when your spirit says shake.

You gotta dance when your spirit says dance,
You gotta dance when your spirit says dance,
When your spirit says dance, you gotta dance right along
You gotta dance when your spirit says dance.
